    That ever so present arrogance among muslims begins in the home with parents and we've all had first class tickets... Would like to here more stories about marriage and independent life according to muslim parents... can't be alone.

    I've said I'm never getting married, which my father says is HARAM and both parents say is a "curse" and setting myself up for a childless existence which will end in an old folks home (like those old kuffar whose kids abandon them) after years of being abused by the staff. I'm not too into tradition and I'm attracted to the idea of a bohemian-esque existence (to an extent -- I still want a top notch education + a job) but I still think I'll probably get married if I meet the right person and might even have a child (maximum two) somewhere down the line but seeing as my parents are traditional Muslims our ideas on relationships/marriage are completely different; tbh mine are a bit of a paradox and I'm not even really sure of what I want but I do know what I don't want! The whole meeting someone, getting your parents' approval, marrying ASAP then popping out babies ASAP sounds old hat to me and is what my parents have in mind. NA-AH to that!

    I've hinted at possibly moving away once I graduate and get a full-time job, which made my mother feel like I was abandoning her. The only way a Muslim girl can leave her parents' home is if she gets married (and leaving without doing so would amount to running away and ditching one's family or becoming a "loose woman") or as my father once eloquently put it a good Muslim woman has three homes throughout her life: her father's, her husband's and finally her grave. Neither of my parents are accepting of the idea of a Muslim woman living alone so I feel ya.

    Oh, and I always get the "your family loves you, there's nothing to be depressed about" too. Oh the sad and misunderstood life of an ex-Muslim :(

    WTF?!  What kind of parent tells their childe they are stupid?!  I guess this is what organised religion does to people.  So much for the 'religion of peace'.  Islam just turns family members against each other, families against other families, tribes against other tribes, etc.  Not very peaceful, innit?!

    I've been battling with depression most of my life and after I converted I was told by fellow Muslimahs that depression doesn't exist.  LIKE HELL IT  DOESN'T EXIST!!!  It's just that we acknowledge and accept that it is a part of life for many people rather than hiding it in shame for fear of besmirching the family name and honor.
