My son is an 8 year old student in primary.
There has been a subtle element of religion introduced to his education, but from what i can gather it has been more aimed at integration and teaching the kids to accept people from all backgrounds and faiths.

When it comes to RE, i believe it is something that is best taught in history.
How and when the main religions were created, distributed, what effect they have had on the world....

I read last year in the news that no school (i believe it was free schools especially) were allowed to teach that creationism was a scientific fact, and that a core part of the scientific curriculum must include evolution.

When reading it in the news i remember feeling that this was a small victory, until i reached the end of the article when it said something like "However, most scientists agree that god created the universe".
    This was BBC.
