Sahih Muslim 0244 It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah may peace be upon him) observed: The Satan comes to everyone. of you and says: Who created this and that? till he questions: Who created your Lord? When he comes to that, one should seek refuge in Allah and keep away (from such idle thoughts).

Once upon a time humans didn't understand how things worked. The world was a very scary place. We didn't know about bacteria, disease or mental health issues so thought they were spirits and demons. Some delusional people would see bright lights telling them to do things or have dreams of people and things speaking to them and tell others in their group. Religion was built on that. We didn't know why there was night and day. We didn't know why they sun would rise and set, so we said the sun was a god, up pulled across the sky by flying chariots.

God was born out of a desire for answers, most of which we have in todays world.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

You're conflating a post-industrial intellect with the life of pre-industrial peoples. I suspect that religion was seen as truth as opposed to truth that one must accept to be saved.

The true muslims were the people who simply never gave a shit and went along with their day-to-day lives. The true kafiroon, on the other hand, were islamic philosophers and jurists both.

So you think I'm wrong? That religion and god/s weren't born out of lack of understanding and/or a desire to understand?

Well, I maintain that most self-avowed atheists are subconsciously religious, even if they wax poetic about enlightenment without reprieve. The question you should be asking is why god deemed it necessary to create himself, invalidate his existence, and then hang in this nihilistic void of semi-being, or semi-death.

I'm still open to the idea of a god or deity of some sort, just not one with the psychology of an attention-seeking child that throws tantrums when ignored.

To be honest as a Theist I do not have answer to your question. To me God has always been around.

Common example of giving faith more importance than doubts. This is what muslims feed off of, as if evading important questions to protect your faith will somehow make it true. Irrationality (0) X 1000 does not result in one instance of the truth.

Kutta most religions don't give explanations as to where their deities come from.

No Theists know the answer to the question. Most Theists don't think of the question. I could come up with some ideas but it would mostly be speculation.

Not much of an answer. Like I said it would be more of a speculation as to where God came from.

why god deemed it necessary to create himself, invalidate his existence, and then hang in this nihilistic void of semi-being, or semi-death.

Because a perfect god is one that must exist, but the TRULY perfect god is one that can create the universe and everything in it whilst in a state of non–existence (because this demonstrates real potence since any old divine being could create things while existing), and thus god had to negate its own existence to perfect itself.

The ontological argument for atheism? I like it! I'll have to buy you a beverage that constitutes the real meaning of halal if our paths ever do cross.

I can't promise  you happy hardcore as islam proper though. I just don't swing that way, y'know?

Thing is, with what we know about the universe, there are things that absolutely defy intuition. The scientific understanding of time is one example. If time came into existence at some point, then what could have possibly existed before time? No wait, that question itself is a paradox.

One could say that God is time. God is existence itself. Not that this makes any sense, but at least it puts the concept of God in parallel with other intuition-defying concepts that aren't non-existent.

Also, it would mean that I am a piece of God trapped in a human body. When this body dies and I return to my complete form, I'll contact you in your dreams to let you know if I'm right. But right now I'm getting a headache. wacko

Hey. Inventing gods is fun. We should have a thread dedicated, and see who can come up with the coolest god.
