    [quote author=Quod Sum Eris
I think something I should point out is that I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with feelings. The fact I may feel attracted to a woman doesn't mean I'm going to act on it. The fact I can feel lust doesn't mean I'm going to be a rapist. So when I hear things like lust, jealousy, anger, all that, to me that's not in and of itself a bad thing. If you acted on them in a way that causes harm, that is a bad thing. So with lust, I just had a look and didn't react in any way, didn't leer, was discreet, just kept it to myself, I don't find anything AT ALL wrong or sinful about this. If I tried to force myself on you then this is something I would consider wrong/sinful.
    [/quote]

I have to agree with you on this.

What you say if I told you sin is human nature?

I really would like to respond to this line of thought, because it's something that always bothered me. If we accept god created us to be a certain way, and that way is sinful, I think it's horrific. God decides to make certain things wrong or immoral or what have you, and then deliberately creates you to be this way. So we're needing salvation because of how god chose to make us. We were born with a sickness we can never overcome and commanded on pain of eternal punishment to be well. The crime we committed was being how god made us and we have to beg and plead with god to forgive us for being the way he made us to be. These teachings are sadistic, wicked and evil.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

QSE if you read further along I made a statement about God creating us with the possibility to do sin along with other things.

     Reply #124 - September 19, 2013, 02:17 AM

I did read it, it doesn't change my point. We were created sick and commanded to be well. We are condemned by our very natures. You're not a good person, you're wicked. You're born in sin. Can you really not see how that teaching is perverse?

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'

QSE I disagree with you. Christian theology states God created us with the possibility to sin, do good, and exc. as these have to do with freewill. Humans were originally created perfect and somewhere down the line they sin and they sinned so badly they cut themselves off from God. God not liking being cut off from his creation devised a plan to bring reconciliation between us and him.

This is the best response I can come up with to answer your inquiry.

My problem with that is that humans are individuals. I don't accept responsibility for the acts of Genghis Khan or Adolf Hitler any more than I accept responsibility for the acts of Mahatma Gandhi or Martin Luther King.

Even if I do accept that certain individuals in the past sinned so badly they cut themselves off from god, why is that my burden to bare? I'm not responsible for Jack the Ripper, why am I responsible for Adam and Eve?

You are not responsible for Adam and Eve. You are responsible for yourself.

The thing is about original sin is that because the early humans sinned their descendents evermore are born with original sin.

Does that mean I'm not a sinner for virtue of being born? I said before and I'll say it again, I do not consider myself to be a sinner. I don't cause harm. I go out of my way to help if I can. In fact I genuinely feel that if I'm in a position to effect something for the better, I have a moral obligation to act. I'm charitable. I'm honest. I do not think I'm a sinner. But the basis of christian theology is that I am, that I'm born in sin because I inherit the crimes of my forefathers. This is not something that I accept. I'm responsible for my own actions, not for the actions of anyone else. But if I'm free of the crimes other people committed, why am I born in sin? The whole basis for being a sinner by virtue of being human is that I am responsible for the actions of people who have been dead so long their bones have turned to dust millennials ago.

Ok, hold the holy-rollin' bus there, Bobby Sue. You haz ein quandary.

If humans were created "perfect" then it would stand to reason that anything a perfect being does must be good. This is, after all, the argument commonly used by theists when excusing their deity of choice. He's God, therefore perfect, therefore anything he does must be good even if we don't understand it.

Now if he's perfect, and if he created humans perfect, then anything humans do must be good, and therefore cannot be sinful. cool2

    But humans are not God.

In the beginning the early humans were perfect meaning God was satisfied with his creation. Yes I realized I am stuck in a bit of a quandary.

QSE we are all born with original sin.

You are not responsible for Adam and Eve. You are responsible for yourself.

You can't have it both ways. I either am responsible for Adam and Eve, or I'm not. If their sins are my sins, then I'm responsible for them and guilty of a crime I never committed. If I'm only responsible for myself, then their crimes are not my own and I'm free of them as an individual human being. Unless there's something I'm not seeing?

Doesn't matter. You said they were created perfect. Perfect is perfect. So, unless sinning is a manifestation of perfection, you have a big problem.

if their sins are not my sins then I'm not born with original sin. I can't be because it's not my sin. I really don't understand your thinking. How am I carrying the sin of another's actions if I'm not responsible for their actions? Am I or am I not held accountable for the actions of someone who was around thousands and thousands and thousand of years before I was even born? You say no but then say I carry their sin.
