I don't get the whole religion being preached at school thing. I mean, I think schools should teach about all the different religions in the world but not in a way that advocates one religion or the other.

Eh, you can't really understand western history without the bible. I wonder what would of happened if t had never become the dominant religion. Then again, if the holocaust never happened would we have UN human rights law? Or even a UN?

`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

An act that should be known in the western world as “mistake # 1.”

Cheesy Well, arguably there were mistakes before that.

Devious, treacherous, murderous, neanderthal, sub-human of the West. bunny

I’m actually in the midst of writing a short story based on precisely these points. It does get worse…

Ohh, so that was the mistranslation that started the hell myth?

No it is not a mistranslation. The Septuagint was translated from another Hebrew text that was in Alexandria. The Septuagint was translated from another text then the one that was compiled in the Torah a few hundred years after Jesus's death.

Darwin's theory was a break through in science and the theory is considered to be a great liberator from religious dogma. Generally Atheists that I know post stuff in honor of Darwin's birthday.

     Reply #79 - September 30, 2013, 03:06 AM

Well Darwin had a wonderful idea that interested people in it's possibility, and it was tested and found to be true. I'm happy to say he was a huge contributor to science, medicine, etc but Darwin is known for science, not atheism. There's nothing about evolution that contradicts the idea of god. The only way it could be a threat is if you take the creation myth literally. Christopher Hitchens or Richard Dawkins on the other hand...well they make good arguments against the jewish/christian/muslim god specifically, but that's all.

Maybe this is why homeschooling has become so very popular in the US as of late. Then everyone gets to teach whatever they want, and no one has to undo any brainwashing from either side.
Now I feel like following my kid to kindergarten, or at least planting an auditory device on him...
Y'all are making me paranoid and suspicious.

Eh, maybe they see it that way. I've never thought of evolution as having anything to do with atheism, in fact (I think I may have mentioned this before) many religious people feel strengthened in their belief in god by the majesty of the evolutionary process, the complexity that went into humans walking this earth.

    Give me an example.

This picture was taken 200km Northeast of Peshawar in a remote location of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. Here Ronald McDonald can be seen punishing this poor young Pakistani boy for saying that Burger King is better than McDonald's and that people who choose Big Macs over Whoppers are committing grave sins that will be punished in the afterlife:

Since 1978 it's estimated that over 22,000 people in Africa and Asia have been killed in Burger War violence.

    fuck you

One of the reasons homeschooling has become popular is because of the lack of educational standards in the public school system.

While attending community college some of the classes I took also had teenagers ( 16 yrs old ) participating in the classes. One particular student would read books before the class started ( he was also 16 yrs old at the time ) and was reading Sun Tzu. These kids were particularly intelligent for their age. The community did set up a program for homeschool students to participate in college academics.

In some cases there are homeschooled 12 year olds attending universities and getting degrees.

    Some them do.

It's been misunderstood by the fundies that evolution and Atheism are intertwined. This is not so.

This is so, though in this context I'd use it specifically towards human gods, not so much a deistic outlook.
