  • Quantum Mechanics to explain "God"
     OP - October 20, 2013, 11:23 AM

The Quatum mechanics theory states the measures of past, present and future are just illusions. that every moment is now and that the measures of time of my actions, words and thoughts are now and nothing more. Another part of this theory claims that there are "particles" or "atoms" (could be a different terminology, I'm just using those words for now,) that can be at more than one place at once and dart back and forth swiftly.

Some people claim this theory is probably the only one to justify a "supreme being" however, this theory deals with physics. We cannot prove something possibly non-physical and spiritual with science. It's not logical and possible unless we are aliens or something. And if God existed, he's not made from anything lol, if he was then he'd be like atoms and wouldn't have traits and "physically spiritual" abilities.  Wink

I swear if one more religious nut tries to use science to try to explain spiritual things, then I will just hold up a sign saying "NO!" (I'll make a separate thread talking about religion vs. science in a bit.)  MSinghK

It can be used against the causality chain required by theists. Quantum particles pop into existences uncaused.

I guess it could. Hm. Imagine using this argument against a theist. They'd get owned.

Most will skip around this or develop a hypothetical concept of an unexplained cause we do not know about yet. They fail to realize the implications of such an argument as it is more important to prove their God is real than really think about the questions at hand.

Yup. Most people who try to use quantum mechanics to explain their pet voodoo (of whatever variety) don't actually have any real understanding of quantum mechancis. They're on the level of "Hey this shit is really weird, so any time I need to explain weird shit I can use this stuff. D'oh".

No, it doesn't actually say that. It just puts limits on what information you can discern via measurement (velocity vs position of subatomic particles being the classic example).

You're into metaphysics now, not quantum mechanics.

You need to read some physics. grin12 This does not apply to atoms as such, but can be done for subatomic particles. However, it's not really that they "dart back and forth swiftly". You're trying to think of it in terms of classical mechanics. It's not that simple.

    This, a thousand times this.

QM is so unexplained that it can be used to explain anything  Cheesy

It's been said, if you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics. I've never studied it and so claim no understanding of it. Guess that makes me the expert on the matter. Cool

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

I rather spend my time doing something positive than fight with theists, who are only interested in clutching onto few facts about science and try to edit it into their ancient holy book.
