    If she was indeed very clear about asking people to support FGM, it just goes to show how stupid people can actually be. Sadly, I think she would have got an even better response in my home town.

    If I was asked this on the street I would simply say no comment.
    Don't want to be accused of stirring up religious hatred or Islamophobia do I?

    Best just side step the issue and go down the pub.
    It's really not my business to interfere with other peoples customs and rituals.

    I mean circumcision has been going on for ages and that is a kind of mutilation.
    No one bats an eyelid about that.

    It might sound a bit hard and uncaring but the change has to come from within the community.
    The last thing these people want to hear is a white man telling them their customs are wrong.

    I hear what you are saying but at the moment I am well outnumbered.

    There are a lot more Somali's than whites and I sure am not going to stick my neck out.
    Some of these guys and girls are really tough and war scarred.
    God knows what they have been through.
    Some are totally ignorant and intolerant of other forms of Islam too, for instance they are intolerant of Sufi Islam and Shia.

    If I started speaking out I think I could kiss my job goodbye.
    best just ignore it and leave it to someone else to deal with.
    We are talking my own self preservation here.

    I am pretty sure all the older women have been cut but what they do to their own daughters I just don't know.

    The last job I had working with some Somali's one of the guys said he circumcised his own son at home.

    If I hear about girls being cut what would your advice to me be?

    Has anybody any evidence of the outcome of a reported case of mutilation?

    Eduardo, you might be saying something very interesting, but you're not helping yourself by being touchy and withholding details that would not compromise you. I don't think GCHQ will monitor this forum and report your unease to your employer.

    Who are they gang at work? How do they behave to you and others? Do they have sympathisers in management? Or is everyone tiptoeing around them in that craven, guilt-ridden British way that sweeps problems under the carpet where they fester and grow? (Excuse shit metaphor.)

    As for reporting people, I have wondered whether I should have followed limping, recently-cut girls in London to see where they lived, and then given the address to the authorities.

    I didn't. Shame on me perhaps.

    She was pushy in favour of FGM -- sugarcoating it and all. I'm not too surprised with the result. Most people don't really think critically.     Do you live in the UK?  Because its been a criminal offense since 1987 to commit genital mutilation on girls.  So what would you do if you heard of any other criminal offense being commited?

    Fucked up indeed. FGM needs to be tackled but MGM also needs a huge amount of awareness.

    Every year there are tens of millions of underage males mutilated for no good reason. Thats child abuse on a massive scale...

    Depends what the offence is, for instance someone selling a bit of weed or maybe the odd bit of stolen gear I would do nothing.

    It's a difficult one because once you hear the cutting has been done it's already too late and you can't stitch what has been cut back on.
    All you might succeed in doing in splitting up a family.
