So your sisters are ok with the idea of beating? What the hell?

    The Quran should say
    "Beating a woman is wrong."
    No round about interpretation bullshit.
That's how some Muslims women get trapped
    in abusive relationships.

My sister doesn't believe that Islam allows wife beating. Then again, she also doesn't believe that wives have to obey their husbands, so...

"so now, if you leave (Allahu A?lam is you already have) what will u do??? go out and show ur body to all the men??? sleep with countless men?? maashaAllah if you think think this is freedom or womens right then may Allah guide you to that which is correct."

    That's good XD.
Well kind of like Christianity (ex- Christian here) regardless of whatever bullshit the Holy books says. As long as followers a more decent version of whatever they think their religions preaches. By all means go ahead. It's dishonest, yes, but the bigger picture is making sure followers don't start preaching and spreading the bad parts. Christians have gotten way off track from what was preached, but that's a good thing.

When I was a Muslim, I used to be proud of the fact that Islam hasn't been changed as much as Christianity has. I remember trying to tell someone once that the headscarf wasn't sexist because the bible had it, too.  whistling2

My issue with my sister is that we've been talking a lot about Islam lately and she keeps trying to tell me I'm wrong and I'm trying to turn this religion into something ugly.

"so now, if you leave (Allahu A?lam is you already have) what will u do??? go out and show ur body to all the men??? sleep with countless men?? maashaAllah if you think think this is freedom or womens right then may Allah guide you to that which is correct."

Something that's been apparent to me since I researched islam is that the modesty thing is something of a paradox. The point of the hijab (and burka, and niqab, and so on) is to understate your gender while at the same time highlighting exactly that. It empathises the fact you're female while at the same time trying to downplay it. It's rather strange, like being told not to think of a black dog while having a picture of a black dog shoved in my face.

according to scholars its meant to be a symbol of how upset your husband is, to humiliate her, but not hurt her. I'm going to tell you off!! Then i'm not going to talk to you anymore and no sex for you!!! Then if it goes that far i'm gonna fuckiiing tap you with my toothbrush, That's how pissed I am!!
And whats your options if he's out of line and disobeying Allah? Advise him with kind words, can't not give him sex, so give him more sex, and erm live with it and make dua you'll be rewarded for your trials kmt.

I have mentioned it before, but I personally believe men in a general sense should protect and look out for women, maybe i'm a bit of traditionalist. Although a lot of men are weeners, i'd probably get my mum to back a fight rather than some men lol,. But in a general sense. I think for the time it may have been suitable to be overprotective, though its a bit strange that in the earlier days of Islam women would fight in the wars, cut a mans head off but I want to shelter you from harm now. Sheltering ppl makes it worse for them when they are actually confronted with something. I remember when I got mugged and I couldn't chase after him or kick him off his bike because my abaya restricted me from that movement, and I repeatedly was told an abaya protected me, in that moment I thought if I was attacked, my abaya would of made me an easier victom because I couldn't run away effectively, so joggers and trainers and the ability to run would protect me more that this big black cloth.

Fuck's sake, and to think you're English.

She was the Queen of the Iceni, who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire. As well as a Queen she was a tactician and warrior, battle hardened chiefs and warrior kings respected her as a warrior and intellect to the point they joined their tribes and kingdoms under her leadership. Boudica and her warriors successfully defeated the Roman Ninth Legion and destroyed the capital of Roman Britain, then at Colchester. They went on to destroy London and Verulamium (St Albans). Thousands were killed. Finally, Boudica was defeated by a Roman army led by Paulinus. Many Britons were killed and Boudica is thought to have poisoned herself to avoid capture.

There are so many women throughout history who were respected for physical strength and skill. The problem with islam is it teaches you if you're female you're inherently weak. Trust me, that twat who mugged you? You probably wouldn't of been able to beat him at arm wrestling but it's very possible to beat someone physically stronger if you're fit and know what to do.

This is my biggest issue with it. Even if the scholars were right and men can't beat their wives, there's still no equivalent for a woman. I do remember being taught in class once that the only time a Muslim woman can disobey her husband is if he tells her to do something that is un-Islamic.  Roll Eyes

I personally have no issues if a guy said he wanted to protect me. Have at it. The problems come if he decides that I am inferior to him because of it. As that is what Islam says.  cool2

Yep. If it helps, my friends and I always preferred the hijab because we, being raised in the west, saw how women here were objectified and didn't want that to happen to us. Not knowing of course that Muslim women are objectified, too. I don't know if you've seen any hijab memes, Quod, but this one seems to be a favorite:

Being female, we're taught from an early age that if you're not an eight, then you might as well be a 1 (not that I find any issue with being a 1). I was even talking to my friend about the uselessness of hijab a few weeks ago and she asked me if I wanted to start dressing like Miley Cyrus at the VMAs. See, no in between. It's no wonder western Muslim women cling to hijab.  cool2

QSE omigod come on, how many people will know that, i'm going to test people tomorrow. I was pretty angry I could of probably adrenaline kicked his ass a little or at least get a whack in.

I am currently a 5 and on occasion a 3 lol, thought i'd throw that out there. Lol that's so true there's no in between, your either a believer or a murdering, rapist, homosexual, whore with no control ( nothing against homosexuals... or whores if that's how you need to get by, just speaking from religious perspective). Either its hijab or you want to walk around in a mini skirt, they don't think its possible to have a middle ground, have morals (referring to the murderer, rapist part) or dress without having your hooha out on display.

If I ever have a daughter, soon as she's old enough I'll be enrolling her in mixed martial arts and taking her to the gym with me. Most people are decent, but it's the minority you have to watch out for. She will know not to leave her drink unattended and then chug it. If I haven't taught her how to take care of herself by the time she's at the age to make her own way in the world and forge a life for herself, I've failed her as a parent. Likewise a son. There's this myth that boys just automatically have street smarts and know how to take care of themselves in the modern world. Trust me, for both genders there's a learning curve.

This is one thing that's always seemed weird to me (among many others). There's whatever verses and hadith that condone the beating of wimminz, but they're always dismissed by the muslims in this area as not meaning that, and they go and quote some apologist guy who has spent 10 years earning his Ph.D in proctology so he could pull out some 15 page article about how wife beating is not allowed or is done with grass/toasty bread/fap tissues/your dishonourable daughter's labia/etc.

Supposedly all knowing and all loving Allah is cool with writing "beat ur wife mmkay?" in his holy book however many fucking times and leaves it to his followers to realise 'twas all a ruse, knowing full well that some of them would ACTUALLY go and beat their wives when they refuse to be raped or whatever. He's willing to let this whole shithole of a mess play out rather than just pick up Muhammed by his asshairs and say "make sure you mention that you CANNOT beat your goddamn wife, and you actually have to follow this one too" and follow up to make sure it's clear.

Allah knows he made his creation stupid as fuck and that they'd fuck this kinda thing up, yet his still does it anyway. Mashallah.

I like your energy on this. I agree.
I have been lately arguing with what I call "a la carte" Muslims (pick and choose your own interpretations on the "clear" Message) on this very thing, and some other topics with the same formula, proving Allah is fallible, and Islam is not compromising.
They cannot answer for it. This is one of those things that come back with "have blind faith" tattooed all over it.
This is the same sort of thing the Imams tell you they will call you back on. Then never do.
