So, not all video games are beat em ups or hack and slashers. Some actually have in-depth story lines with characters that can make you step back and analyze life in general.

One game that I am completely obsessed with, and didn't think I would be, is FF 7: Crisis Core. I'm a bit of a pirate so I modded the PSP that I got for my son last year and uploaded the game onto the memory card. For this particular game, instead of being a perfectionist like I tend to be with RPGs, I played purely for the story. It's not like I bothered to play the original FF7. I was just curious. The story just blew me away. As it is, Square-Enix has been exploiting the whole "clone" theme and the "cruelty of science" theme since Final Fantasy 9 which was the biggest celebration of those concepts that I've seen done indirectly in a game to date. That is, aside from some sci-fi games where that kind of thing is almost a given to being present in some way. This game on the other hand, was very short and sweet. The statements made were powerful and the effects of death on a person has taken a different more optimistic look than previously seen in these line of games. It is a beautiful story.

What games have some of the best stories to you?

    To me :

    megaman battle network series
    Fire emblem: sacred stones
    Final fantasy tactics
    Tactics ogre
    Kingdom hearts chain of memories
    Kingdom hearts 384/3 days
    Old pokemon games

I forgot a lot of other games names.
Many of these old games make me feel very nostalgic and fuzzy when i think about those good old times when i played them . The characters and the story were really awesome emotionally .

I wanna play kingdom hearts birth by sleep so badly but i need a psp for it which im never buying since i got a 3ds .

Im also a huge anime fan whose stories are really amazing such as death note .

    Movingfeet your avatar is awesome!
I.played only one chapter of FF but don't remember which one was it.
    Lol it was years ago.
My all time favourite is Assassin's Creed. It has a really good storyline. I love a lot the characters Ezio and Altair. It is full of historical facts and the cities are just recreated very accurately.

I have birth by sleep. The concept behind the gameplay is interesting. Reminds me of Threads of Fate. Chain of Memories was good.

Inception. Thanks! Can't say I ever played the Assassin's Creed games. I know many who have though.

Games that changed me? I would have to say Ultima Online and Everquest, yah I am old. These games open a spectrum of people I wouldn't likely have contact with. Although there were social networks already within the Internet, these two games introduced me to this medium when I was young. Both had lore which was amazing. However the issue with both of these games was the difficultly scared off a lot of players. Both were unforgiving when a player made a mistake. A lot of players were not open to the slap upside the head style learning curve in either.

I remember people talking about those games. I tried Everquest..didn't get too far because I am not built for MMOs. I stick to myself.

EQ wasn't as group dependent as current mmorpgs. There were classes which could solo as effective as as a group; mage, wizard, druid, necromancer. A bard could kite 50+ mobs, it had no need for a group. Only two classes could provide the ability for a group to fight that many mobs at once; a bard itself and the enchanter.

Ah.. ok. Guess I just assumed since I had played a Korean MMO at the time and it was very group dependent.

Kingdom hearts. Outside of Pokemon, I never really played any games. Kingdom Hearts was the one that opened the world video games to me. I always thought they were boring before, but now I want to play so many games. I can't wait until I get a better paying job, I need to get a PS4 and Kingdom Hearts 3.  cool2

To be honest, I have not heard any good things about the newer FF games for the next-gen consoles. I am generally too broke to get one so I don't know from personal experience.

Kingdom Hearts the original was really good. So good. Chains of Memories was amazing..

Currently games have defined strict boundaries between players by their "levels". It's segregation by content Tongue In EQ this line was blurred. A castle could be level 10-20 at the front gates but level 50 within the castle keep. The front guard would be weak, the "Lord(s)" would be a challenge. A level 20 player could wear items a level 50 could. Items had no level restriction nor a limit on what one could trade. Like my new robes? Here have them, I can go kill X mob once to get another. There was no bait and switch or carrot on the stick.

Sounds like that game was revolutionary for its time. Not only do items have a restriction based on level, they are also restricted based on class and sometimes race.

I have been saying this since FF7

I am going to have to disagree there. I am not too much of a fan of FF7 myself, but I can appreciate certain things about it.

FarmVille introduced me to FaceBook, and got me interested in color and games at a dark time. It helped with waking up my mind.
