So i was just chatting to a muslim friend of mine in the UK and she was telling me their fasts are 21 hours and her husband is diabetic, she said they were worried about him but he is fine now and 'allah is great'

I was sitting and feeling sorry for myself because my number of friends are dwindling down so I reconnected with her, and then I thought now this is why I don't speak to my muslim friends  015

If allah's so great why does he order her diabetic husband to fast for 21 hours?

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Hey all. Absolutely hate the hypocricy in ramadhan and how they all turn mega islamic n facebook pages r full of islamic twaddle. Me? I dont even bother fasting anymore. Even went to Nandos couple of days ago during the day n saw a few other pakistanis there. Lol. I still 'act' as a muslim in front of family but sometimes cant hide the smirks and sarcasm which shows on my face n words when they get in 'preacher mode'. Also about this 'shaitaan being chained in ramadhan' fairy story. It astounds me that educated ppl believe this codswallop. Ok. Rant over :-).

So I just found this on FB

"This Ramadan we find the ummah's duas focused on Palestine.
I hope this is a good sign that Allah's Assistance is coming soon.
If you aren't making dua for Palestine, ask yourself why! As it is the time of the year when duas are accepted"

Did anyone watch islam channel last night where that guy was crying and asking the viewers for donations?

I couldn't help but feel it was all fabricated, first he was all tears but once he started talking money, something was off about him. Seemed like there was a smirk on his face.

It's outrageous that they're asking people for hundreds of thousands of pounds to build mosques. Come on, £500,000 to build a place where people can talk nonsense and stand in long lines together and bow in sync with one another. Money well spent.

I feel terrible for Palestine and it's obvious everyone's been praying for them but nothing's happened? Innocent people are still dying and it's to do with people, not 'god'. And I'm sure prayers are accepted at all times (ha.) and not just in Ramadan. I can never see sense in what some people claim.

What gets me is they then try to justify allah not helping by saying its when allah loves u that he puts u through trials. I mean, what logic is that.

Well I had a go at  fasting again yesterday, more out of curiosity than anything else, to see if I could do the whole 19 hour thing and just about managed it. I really don't know how people do it continually as mentally there's no way I think I could.
I was talking with some of my inlaws as well that day, I think they were under the impression I do that kind of fast regularly, I didn't let on otherwise . . . because of  the shorter hours they keep, now they think I'm a 'rock star'. Cheesy
I fear for my wife though, she did 3 back to back 24 hour fasts last week, it's probably only a matter of time before she gets ill as a result, she's already showing signs. Cry

I am sorry, I hope she gets a break soon, and can be convinced to make up missed fasts at a much later date when the days are shorter.

What I mean is she eats once around 10pm and doesn't get up for anything pre sun rise so doesn't eat again until 10pm the next night. I've never seen her this dedicated before, thankfully she did eat around 2.30am today and seems the better for it.

I feel like I need to vent again...this Ramadan is really wearing on me...but I think it's really my judgmental mother that is getting to me and I may crack soon. None of her immediate family fasts....they are very much Americanized...her Lebanese side of her family has been in America for over a hundred years and rode on a boat for three flipping months just to get here....her other half is White European, which she pretends doesn't exist.

For some reason, my mother chose to be super holy which is not what she grew up with. She makes comments about her family not fasting, and so does my dad....what she said today, "It's in the book, the book is a guide for everyone, so there is no reason they shouldn't be fasting....life is about the hear after...blah blah blah". I'm so tired of her preaching. She had the Quran blasting when I got home and asked her to turn it down...which surprisingly she didn't put up a fight. I really wanted to come out and tell her...well they are not fasting because they are all well educated and went to college (which my mom didn't) and know it isn't healthy. Hell...I know it isn't healthy from majoring in nutrition and from what I learned in medical school....but because it says in that f'ing book everyone should fast for a month every year, then it must be true.  How does one reason or rationalize with someone like this?Do I just have to deal with this stupidity? If she knew I wasn't fasting she'd flip her lid.

I think it's because I don't get along with my family very well...and then being forced to sit down and eat with them for a whole month is almost unbearable...

    Koala Bear,
I feel for you brother/sister, I think the closest thing I can imagine in terms of your situation would be living with my inlaws 24-7. I was told by one of them whose a doctor that 'fasting is good for you' because it helps you loose weight. Personally if I feel if I loose any more weight, I'm going to have to run around the shower to get wet.  Cheesy

Thanks, Doubting  Tomas (I'm a gal btw)...yeah...tell me about it...in my immediate family and brother's wife's family (who we have eaten many iftars with) there are many doctors/pharmacists/med students too...they think it's healthy...but I think some of them (like my brother) just goes along with it because he has to. Bottom line...it isn't healthy, the body goes into ketosis and that can have a lot of ramifications..for starters.  My boyfriend who is almost done with med school thinks it is absolutely crazy that my family fasts (but he isn't Muslim though)....he knows how dangerous it can be as well....but he's never met them...so he doesn't know how ridiculous they are.

I guess this month really illustrates that you can't reason with irrational people that follow a book just because someone said it was the word of god. It's my 3rd year pretending to fast and this is the hardest year yet...it sucks because I have to be home to help my mom and it takes a lot of time away from me  being able to spend time with my boyfriend...but at least he understands.
