    My fear was always freddy kreuger's hand coming out the toilet.  I wouldn't go toilet without hovering over the seat for  ages after watching that movie.   Cheesy

    The year in industry will help your career prospects when you leave as it gives you experience. However it is not a necessity. It's up to you but if you have nothing to lose then I would highly recommend it. My course has a year in industry which has been quite useful to me and should increase my chances of getting a job when I leave uni. If you don't mind being stuck in uni for an extra year then you should go for it.
