إِنْ جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَأٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَنْ تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ
"If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done." (Al-Hujarat verse 6)
That is excellent Qur'anic advice - and elegantly phrased - if only it hadn't been spoilt by the word "Fasiq" (wicked/sinner/debauched/depraved) - I often want to quote it but the word "Fasiq" makes me stop lol
