Agreed, but that doesn't invalidate it. If it increases in common useage and makes reading and writing more accessible to, say dyslexics, for starters, then I'd be all for it. English is a language that especially morphs alot over time, with some words even coming to mean their original opposite. Cleave is an old eg and wicked is a modern one. And look what's happening to affect and effect.
Teaching's not all 'Hough nough broughn cough' in English now you know. We even do some lesson plans on texting as well as swearing. Language, first and foremost is about communication and if that facility is improved, who can knock it - academics maybe?
