Is killing an aboriginal still a tradition on Australia day? Is there any more land left to steal?
Should people really be celebrating a genocide?
Shame on you.
Heaps of Aboriginals celebrate Australia Day.
Besides, do you realize how much crime they commit? They have the 'We're Sorry' day for them...don't generalize. They get heaps of benefits that come straight out of taxpayers money, and you know what they (and by they I mean the vast majority of them in Western Australia) spend it on? You got it, booze. I had the same views as you before I actually LIVED here, and yes, my view has vastly changed since dealing with aboriginals. My boyfriend used to work as a postman, and he met very few nice aboriginal families on his whole post round.
The land didn't belong to anyone originally, it's just that the Aboriginals were 'there first'. Brits are the ones that should be blamed if anything, for kicking those 'bloody convicts' out instead of dealing with them.
I'm against genocide and all that, but come on, it was a day where everybody could get together and there was a feeling of unity. You can't blame Australians nowadays for what happened years ago.
I am against nationalist Australians/Brits/Americans, etc but why say 'shame on you' to us for just wanting to spend a nice day out with our family and friends and watch the fireworks.
Nothing that I have said condones racism. I'm not racist, I'm fighting against racism. You have to realize though that Australia Day does not equate to racism since Aboriginals were there themselves, celebrating it.
People talk about racism towards Aboriginals, Pakistanis, Indians, etc, but what about calling someone a 'bloody pom'...that offends a LOT of my English friends, so yeah, it goes both ways.
I apologize for not being POLITICALLY CORRECT and for posting this thread.
