  • Greatest tearjerkers of all time?
     OP - March 11, 2009, 08:09 AM

I need a good cry, recommend me some emotional gut wrenching heart ripping tearjerking movies to help me out.

I watched Braveheart, but I've seen it so many times that it was gentle tears that fell down.

Films that have made me cry include:

    Gladiator
    Pan's labyrinth
    Othello
    Titanic
    Rob Roy
    Braveheart
In the name of our father
    The prince of egypt \
                                        Embarrassed lmao
    The little mermaid /

    AI
    Troy
    Crouching tiger hidden dragon
    The green mile
    Of mice and men
    The colour purple

    So recommend me something.  Cry

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

    Old Yeller?

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.

It all depends on how "cryable" you are. The only movie that made me cry was "Pan's Labyrinth" and you watched it already.

    Watch it again?  whistling2

Films dont normally make me cry, but The Champ was a sad story  Cry

Usually feel-good documentaries make me well up.  The Secret Millionaire is  a series in the UK, where an undercover millionaire goes under the spoof of a charity worker, helps out in whatever way he can for a week, and then at the end he reveals his identity and usually hands them a cheque for ?10,000-100,000.

Brings tears to my eyes everytime!

I don't think that would make me cry in the way I want to cry, but it might make me cry in frustration that I am not getting one of those cheques.  Cry

'Ghost' is the one movie that does it for me and I'm not one to cry at movies much.  Also 'Schindler's List'.

The Boy in the Stripey Pyjamas is just out on DVD, I haven't seen it but given the subject matter I would guess its a tearjerker.

    Titanic  Roll Eyes

    Also agree with Schindler's List.

    A Beautiful Mind
    Brokedown Palace
Habla con Ella (Talk to Her)
    ...

    Mine:  Smiley

    1) Bambi the scene where Bambi's mother dies.
    2) Roman Holiday where Gregory Peck leaves, I sooo love Audrey Hepburn, she has an inner aura of sorts...
    3) Dumbo where the little elephant Dumbo goes to visit his mom where she's locked up, & they show all the baby animals with their moms, but its so poignant ,Dumbo's mom can't be with him.
    4) E.T. where E.T. finally left for his planet.

Many Hindi movies & a Bengali movie called Pather Panchali, A_G who doesn't seem to visit us anymore had a scene from Pather Panchali as his avatar. I don't think anyone else has here has seen it though.

     Reply #23 - September 27, 2009, 04:33 PM

I musta seen this movie (Glory) a dozen times, and yet I still get a big ole lump in my throat during this scene, when the guy says "Give 'Em Hell, 54th!":

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2c_BvVBd-Q&feature=related

The final battle scene right after the previous one posted also still gives me chills (you may not want to watch this if you haven't seen the whole movie or don't know the history of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment and their assault on Fort Wagner):

So give it up...whatcha got for lump-in-throat-inducing (or tear-jerker) movie scenes? Post them here.

I'm not as much of a movie buff as many people are on this forum, but I do recall the scene from I am Legend where Will Smith pulls the pin on the grenade to save his daughter.
     Cry

Also "Rocket Science" the entire movie makes me want to weep openly.

I'm a manly man-I rarely cry-things without souls find it difficult to cry

But I must admit that movies often bring tears to my eyes

The Kite Runner was one such movie-from start to end really.

A few others I can't remember right now.

"I am ready to make my confession. I ask for no forgiveness father, for I have not sinned. I have only done what I needed to do to survive. I did not ask for the life that I was given, but it was given nonetheless-and with it, I did my best"
