    Definition Of Brainwashed

If you are in a spiritual group and you dont see your group may be wrong.YOU ARE BRAINWASHED

If you are going into business and you dont see the possibility of your business may fail. YOU ARE BRAINWASHED

If you are going into war and you dont see the possibility you may die. YOU ARE BRAINWASHED

If you believe in God and and you dont see that the possibility of God may not exists. YOU ARE BRAINWASHED

If you believe there is no God and you dont see that the possibility of God may exists. YOU ARE BRAINWASHED

If you believe that Charles Darwin was a gifted psychic  who can tell what did really happen millions of years ago. YOU ARE BRAINWASHED

If you are an atheist and you believe that you are intelligent and cannot be brainwashed. YOU ARE BRAINWASHED

99.9 % humans are brainwashed one way or other.  whether they are believers or non believers, whether they are educated or non educated  dance

Giving examples doesn't constitute a definition.

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.

But I think you can see a recurring pattern and to be honest I think kope has got it; he knows what brainwashed means.

Brainwashed is to believe in something in such a way that the possibility that you are wrong doesn't cross your mind.

If you believe that you're a complete idiot. I don't think anyone believes that. If you think scientists believe that then you have no idea what you are talking about.

I don't agree with that definition - that can be someone who is just pig headed or overly optimistic or half a dozen other things than brainwashed.

Brainwashed involves some kind of outside source which has convinced you to leave aside your critical faculties and accept everything they say.  IOW, its to believe in someone/thing in such a way that the possiblility that THEY are wrong doesn't cross your mind.

Why does it have to be an outside source? It doesn't seem impossible to brainwash yourself.

Well, it is impossible unless you're just making up your own definition of the word...

    Quote
Brainwashing (also known as thought reform or reeducation) consists of any effort aimed at instilling certain attitudes and beliefs in a person ? beliefs sometimes unwelcome or in conflict with the person's prior beliefs and knowledge, in order to affect that individual's value system and subsequent thought-patterns and behaviors.

That doesn't fit with any recognised definition of the word brainwashed.  It was originally coined to describe coerced persuasion, eg, of POWs in Vietnam, and has since broadened to include cults which indoctrinate their members, political propaganda, and some types of advertising and peer pressure.

A person who deludes themselves over religion or whatever isn't brainwashed, they may be many other things but brainwashed is not the right word.  Kope obviously doesn't have english as a first language, that's why he's using the wrong word to describe what he means.

Yes, but: doubt and beliefs are mutually exclusive.
I think you are confusing "lack of knowledge" with "doubt".

By the way you are describing it now, you are an agnostic theist. Which means: you believe in Allah without knowing if Allah is true or not (because you lack proofs). That is NOT doubt.

My understanding is that agnostic is somebody who believes that it is impossible to prove whether God exists or not

Agnosticism, in general, is the BELIEF that no ultimate metaphysical truth can be KNOWN.
(That's why I don't claim to be agnostic: I don't see any valid reason to say that such truths, if they exist, could not be known)

Atheism, technically, is the "lack of belief in any God" (which is often called "weak Atheism" and which is what most people actually mislabel "Agnosticism")
Atheism also includes the belief that no God exists (strong Atheism, which is what most think "Atheism" is all about)

    An Agnostic can be:
Agnostic/Weak_Atheist (somebody who believes ultimate truths cannot be known and who does not believe in the existence of God, but does not necessarily believe that God doesn't exist)
Agnostic/Strong_Atheist (somebody who believes ultimate truths cannot be known and who believes that God doesn't exist without actually possessing such certain knowledge)
Agnostic/Theist (somebody who believes ultimate truths cannot be known and who believes that God exists without actually possessing such certain knowledge)

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.
