How do you cope? Are you just going to carry on? When I was a Muslim living under my Catholic mother I was constantly thinking about how I was going to either break it to her or escape. Don't you do the same?

Also I find that girls who have been raised in conservative Muslim households are so boring in bed, they do the bare minimum and don't know how to enjoy themselves or explore their sexual being. So sad but thats is what Islam does to people.

That has been my experience too! (apart from one!)

When being alternative in music and style wasn't something prepackaged and marketed to kids in the mall via the "emo" and "scene" stuff and 'Twilight' and Hot Topic.

Having many years ahead of me to figure it all out.  Also what Berbs said about your younger figure.

Not being married, in the end, was a more preferable state than being married, and I miss that.  Emotionally, intimately, socially - it was all better.  Financially it did help me, but I think I would have eventually achieved financial stability and a better position than I have now (due to the wonders of al Islam!)

Breaded pork chops. I haven't had them in ages, and it seems like people don't make them anymore.  I guess it's not healthy!!!

When MTV showed music on it, and discovering new things through that.  I think some of the bands that were big back then or had big hit songs wouldn't have a chance today because they are too alt or they are too gay or something like that that they can't package up nice and slick and sell to teenagers ala Hannah Montana.  I can't imagine Dead or Alive making it very far today.  I think that even a song like "Our House" by Madness wouldn't make it on the regular rotation and be popular today.

I sort of miss the pre-internet culture, when people wrote letters. But it was harder to find stuff out back then.  Shows were word of mouth, etc.  There were 'zines and small newspapers and letters and phone calls.

When books weren't so frikken expensive

The TV show 'My So-called Life'

Wandering through the woods, walking around town, having adventures.  I don't let my kids do this today.  Even where we live, which is a nice small town with rich areas, mostly middle class and a hood, there are gangs (or wannabe gangs), drug dealers, and who knows -  now we are more aware of pedophiles.

I'm not sure if this is going to come out the way I want it to  but I miss the days when everyone didn't have a disorder of some type.  But I am glad that people who do have problems can now get some recognition and medication for it.

This is strange, but I sort of miss when your TV was watching re-runs of old shows from the 50s and 60s.  Before there were 500 cable stations, so everyone watched re-runs of 'Bewitched', 'My Three Dads', 'The Munsters' and those sorts of shows.  Now one kid is watching Nickelodeon, and one is watching MTV2, and one person is watching Discovery and so on.

Cor blimey I miss the days before 'reality TV'.  Reality TV is such a load of utter crap (I'm looking at you, 'Bachelor' and 'Real Housewives').

I miss Times Square when it was nasty, down and dirty, gritty.  Now it is a packaged Disneyland for the tourists and no real New Yorker would go there.  I mean really -- Olive Garden?  Chevy's Fresh Mex?  The Disney store?

I miss seeing farmland in the outlying exurbs of the big cities I grew up around.  Suburban sprawl, the disappearance of the family farmer, cookie cutter houses, increased population, increased taxes, increased traffic, etc.  I kind of miss what was there before.

The anticipation of Xmas and birthdays. I am still like this by the way but it is apparently unseemly for a woman my age to be giddy about expecting gifts and surprises. Apparently, I'm supposed to be giving gifts to these ankle biters calling me mother, and I'm not supposed to want it all to be a surprise anymore.

OK I sort of miss going roller skating and going to the roller rink.  Even if they are still around, now it seems like the only people who go there are meth heads and pedos.  I miss roller skating for sure. I have a pair of roller blades that I'm afraid of.

I can't say if I miss much else. The candies that I liked are still made.  The drinks I like are still made.  I look at the clothes I wore then and I cringe.  Not because they are out of style but because they are not flattering.  I think that we're sort of moving into this customized culture where you get your TV shows, your internet, your music, and even clothing that, while generally being in and out of style, you can customize to fit your body type and blahblah.

I still make pork chops in bread crumbs! I don't use conventional bread crumbs though, I use stuffing mix... why don't you try it? It's gorgeous, I'm tellin ya  Afro

Hm I will try that. Right now I live with extended family and making breaded pork chops would raise some eyebrows and blahblah.  But I am moving soon and I plan to do some porktastic food dishes then.

I miss the never ending city sprawl and 24/7 busy-life of London where I grew up.

Married to a Muslim.  I need a support group or something for this.  The issues in the marriage are so vast, that I can say that I don't enjoy this marriage very much.  I'm not sure if I ever want to be legally wed again.

I don't like the sprawl of the suburbs but I know that is anti-progress of me. I like the idea that there is some quiet peaceful farmland out there, but I'm not sure I could live in the actual countryside.

You know what I miss? I miss enjoying the hustle and bustle of the city, the busy life.  I used to live in New York City when I was oh-so-much-younger, as well as some other major cities in the world, the culmination of like, all my childhood / teenager dreams, but I would not move back there now if you paid me.  I enjoyed the inconveniences, the fast pace, that there is always something intriguing going on.  I didn't mind small, oudated apartments in walk ups or whatever.  You know how you take a walking basket to the market and you can only buy the food that you can carry so you end up at the market almost everyday or every few days, because there's no car to put them in or no place to park the car near the market.  I used to totally not care about that stuff.

Now it's suburbs or exurbs all the way for me.  I want to be able to park on a car pad or driveway instead of fighting it out in the streets with my 10,000 neighbours, things like that.  I don't miss going to a store and standing in check out lines that stretch to the back of the store because there are just so many millions of people and only a few of those big box stores in town - or any store. I 100% do not miss the crazy, ridiculous traffic that comes from living in the city or the inner ring suburbs.

I miss the subways though. I love trains, and subways are my favourite types of train.

I miss having my German sheperd put me around on roller skates.
I miss bumper hitching (grabbing onto unsuspecting driver's car bumpers and being dragged down the snow covered roads skiing on our boots)
I miss throwing rocks at the new cars that were on the trains that passed behind our school.
I miss surrounding river parties at night with walkie talkies and flashlights and when the partiers ran away thinking we were the cops, we'd take the beer they left behind.
I miss getting high off the second hand smoke my hot 18 year old neighbour would blow down my lungs because she couldn't be seen wasting good first hand smoke on a little shit like me.
I miss hopping people's fences at night and skinny dipping in their pools.
I miss spin the bottle and truth or dare
I miss hiding in the trunk to get into the drive-in movies.
I miss playing on the railroad tracks and being chased off by railroad security who would shoot salt pellets at us with his air rifle (I don't think they are allowed to do that anymore)
I miss hanging outside the beer store and asking people to buy me beer.
    I miss competitive shoplifting.

It was about stickers with me Tongue Everyone swapped stickers at school to fill up their sticker books. This got banned eventually but we still did it. I got caught once and my stickers were confiscated Tongue They gave them back to me at the end of school.

The pokemon games are good but they are all the same but with different graphics and pokemon. It's pointless playing more than one.

Ah, when I was in school we used to swap Garbage Pail Kids cards.  I had a HUGE stack of them at one point!  Don't remember my school banning them though but then again this was 20+ years ago.

I so hated it when teachers confiscated stuff from us. I remember once when the bell went, meaning break had ended, and it is quite a long walk from the playground back to school so I decided to start on one of my two tangerines. I would have been able to finish it by the time we got to school. A teacher decided to confiscate it both of them off me. I went to the staff room at the end of school and she told me she had thrown them away! What was the fucking point?!  finmad

They used to adverts like that yes.  Dont know why they stopped putting cards in them though, as it was cheap marketing ploy and I would never have allowed my mum to buy anything else.

I remember once at madrasah, the guy found my Killer Instinct SNES game, and confiscated it. When I told my dad and my dad asked him for it, he said he had "destroyed it". My dad obviously did not say anything to him because he was a "holy man" and he must be right! Bastard Mullah!

Lol, that would have been very irresponsible of her. Schoolkids ought to realize what their rights are and stick by them.

My school was pretty weird to be honest. They prohibited the speaking of any language other than English in order to get international students to learn English quicker "because that's what they came to England for". I can't believe they had the nerve to do that, looking back on it.

lol, if they did that today they'd be all over the news Tongue

I hate it when teachers confiscate stuff. It's alright as long as they give it back after school (my school usually did that) but destroying/throwing it away just doesn't make sense! It's not their property! I'd sue my school if that happened to me!

One time one of the teaching assistants at my school, I was round 12 yrs old at the time made one of my classmates throw their popsicle in the bin because...well, I don't remember why but when I went to fetch it out of the bin (it was still in it's wrapper) she yelled at me so I had to back off.

Even though it wasn't my popsicle I was still pissed off because my classmate had bought it with their own money from our student-run canteen and this stupid TA had mad them throw a perfectly good popsicle away for some stupid reason.  I would have demanded that she pay me back for the money she made me waste!  finmad
