    Look yummy, except for the raisin, can't imagine eating raisin with rice, what's the thing that look like  noodle?

    IA that looks absolutely delicous!!!

    My lunch today will consist of salami, tomatos, a bit of garlic, ranch dressing,
    then roll all that into a leaf of romain lettuce like a sushi roll.  Works well with
    bacon too.  Like a BLT without the bread

    I don't like raisins either. I picked them out one by one grin12
    And the thing that looks like noodle is a type of pasta we call "Sha'riya" which means hairy !

    It seems characteristic of Middle Eastern food that they'll put raisins, sultanas and the like in with rice or cous cous. Seems like a waste of otherwise perfectly good savoury food

    But then, I dislike Chinese food for the same reason. Sweet and savoury are good, but they should never be mixed.

    I would definitely done the same thing, raisin is okay for ice cream or cakes, but not to be eaten with rice .
    "Sha'riya"? as in Islamic law?  grin12

    IA  saffron infused rice.. with pine nuts   *drools*!!! 
    Pilaf was especially popular in tokyo, growing up,
    as was curry rice.  Yes, Im a curry muncher LOL
    They didnt use pine nuts, tho,
    found out that pleasure in turkey  Tongue

    Is that scrambled egg on top?  Thats how the jpns served it.

    Where Im moving to, they have several jordanian restaurants.
    I CANT WAIT to get there!! There are no ME restaurants here at all :(
    Can't even find a greek gyro around here.

    BTW,  WHAT are the spices they use on doneer kebab in iraq?  I have tried
    to replicate them but it never comes out right.  Always wanted to know
    which spices they use on lamb.

    The only time i like a bit of sweet with salty is a SMALL bit of cranberry jam on turkey,
    or sauted apples with pork chops.  I occasionally like sweet and sour pork, too, but
    not often.

    No spices at all.


    Now let me introduce you to some good ole fatty Iraqi dishes

    Here you have the grilled lamb kebab (the most famous variety of Iraqi grill):




    And here is the proper doner which we call "gus". Better than that Turkish doner they have in the UK  Tongue




    And here is one of the most famous "Dolma" (vegetables stuffed with rice and meat)






    This is my favourite "Qoozi" which we had for dinner today:

    Lastly, our national dessert "klecha" which is a biscuit stuffed with palm dates (primarily) or walnuts and sugar:

    yes, in turkish its called adana kebab.  But as you mentioned before, i have no doubt
    the iraqi version tastes better lol.  Im trying to fathom HOW it could taste better.  How
    far away are you???  Im ready to come over for dinner LOL!!
    That klecha looks fantastic too!  I was never a big fan of baklava, but that dessert
    looks scrumptious.  They grow dates here in the US, and I can find them VERY fresh
    sometimes & they melt in your mouth.  soooooo goood!

    There is an Pakistani restaurant right down the street.  Some Pakistani name some good dishes so I know what to get
    So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    I used to stuff my face with 'klecha' too sometimes... never knew what it was called though, so thanks!  Afro

    Oohhh there's this ridiculously sweet dessert... can't remember what it's called... think it's a palestinian thing.... I wish I knew. It's one of my fav things...

    I wonder if there are any good restaurants in Scotland... I only know of two kurdish places.
