    Wrong Kaiwai. India has done great leaps and bounds to counter the preference for baby boys. Almost murder for a doctor to perform unnecessary abortions on girls. Clamped hard on the caste system. Made it illegal for a family to demand a dowry to marry there Son. Even though the bad habits were often deeply entrenched in their culture/religion.

    Yeah, very true.

    There will always be problems in any society. The thing is how a society is able to identify and tacke problems. When an absolutist and rigid faith like Islam gets added to the mix, existing problems gain divine approval for many and it becomes impossible to even identify as problems let alone solve.

    If Islam dissappeared magically tommorow from Pakistan, the gov't or other groups can be free to tackle these problems head on without the worry of takfirization of having to deal with religions fanaticism.

    Ah Tommy, Bangladesh would be a place I could happily love if only millions from there didn't immigrate illegally into my country, whenever I travel inside India-to Jaipur, Agra, Delhi, I see illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, not to mention the Bangladeshis I saw in Dhaka who were very cooly telling us that they have relatives settled in India & they know that its very "easy" to go & settle there, which they plan on doing someday.

Makes me angry to think how Danny Pearl & the Jewish family in the Mumbai Massacre was butchered for being Jewish by Pakistani terorists, while they live in a nation cleansed of many more millions of kaffirs.


    Strange to see that Turks settle all over Europe & never take non Muslim formerly colonized folks in, when it was a huge colonizing power itself, far from being colonized & they never acknowledge the holocaust of a million Armenians, while hating & foaming at the mouth at little Israel.

    Anyway, these truths hurt & anger not just Muslims, also ex Muslims.

    Thats pretty true. Thats what scares me as a person with a Muslim name.. because there will be a boiling point or some event which turns the entire west and even places like Indian on Muslims. Naturally it will be something caused by these terrorists, but also by the silent complacency of the Muslim community at large. Fuck, what an irony it would be if I get carted off to Aushwitz part deux one day because of the crimes of a religious demonination I don't even believe in.  Cry

    As far as I know, ironically even Jinnah wanted a secular state where people of all faiths were equal and saw themselves as being Pakistanis before they were Muslims, Hindus or any other faith.

    Well, thats not very easy to achieve if most members of other faiths have been cleansed.Like in Turkey, sure its secular, but then its non Muslim members were mass slaughtered in the Armenian Genocide, so only Muslims remain-Sunnis & Alevis.Turkey, which was a huge colonizing power, also doesn't take in millions of non Muslim immigrants from its former colonies, so there's no risk of its non Muslim population increasing via immigration. Unlike Turkey, Pakistan explicitly decided to be a state for Muslims & it cleansed out an overwhelming % of its non Muslim members-the results were not surprising given the nature of Islam & the movements in Islamic states in the past few decades.

    As regards Turkey, it was more about nationalism then religion, although yes religion also played a significant part in it.  I personally can't see why non Muslims would want to go to Turkey either when there are countries that are far better to live in.


    According to what I read, what happened in Pakistan and India was a population exchange, where Muslims went to Pakistan and non Muslims went to India.  To be honest I actually believe that it wasn't a bad idea at all, that they split and kept out of each others' way, considering the tensions that existed between the communities.  True many died, but then I also bet that many more would have lost their lives had it not happened. 

    It reminds me of Yugoslavia.  I personally think that its breaking up was also a good idea, as people are always going to put the interests of their own kind first.

    Lets' see, 14% of India is Muslim, 1%+ of Pakistanis are Hindu, what happened was that while Pakistan became an explicitly Islamic nation, India remained secular & a very significant share of the Muslim population of India didn't move out of India. So the majority of Pakistanis are Punjabis.     Granted, but would India have been free of conflict had the partition not occurred?  Would it have been better had it not happened, because I think it was safer in the long run.  That's what I'm asking...

    I actually didn't "ask" for it. I couldn't care less what her opinion (or anyone else's for that matter) of my home country is. I simply said "looking forward to it" because I was curious as to what she had to say.

    I said tree's because give the circumstances at the moment, one would be scraping the bottom of the barrel to find something positive to talk about Bangladesh (or Pakistan for that matter).

    Not really. In regards to the Bangladeshi govt.--yeah. But in regards to the country as a whole (the people, the culture, food, and places to go) the only person who I can imagine would have to scrape the barrel is someone who has never really lived in BD before, nor experienced the culture. I say this in defense of any country, not just BD.

    Well I don't think thats fair. Bangladesh, as much of a shite-hole it is, has some good qualities:

    - Extremely green and lush land
    - Generally tolerant and peaceful people
    - Cuisine a balanced mix of indian and SE asian
    - Rich variety of regional foods (fruits, fish, veg, rice, meat)
    - Lots of slave labour and servants (if you're rich)
    - No Sharia law and somewhat secular
    - Lots of pirated software/dvs and cheap (fake) designer label clothes
    - Quick and cheap human-powered transportation (rickshaws)
    - Lots of water (unless your the villager living on the river banks)

    Ok.. I'm out. Damn that country is shitty lol.

    I guess it depends on what you define as 'tolerant and peaceful'. Tolerant as in, "we'll tolerate honour killings" and peaceful as in, "we won't suicide bomb a funeral procession"?

    Whose dirt-poor-ness can be traced back to backwards religion (Islam) and a backwards culture. What you see is the result of what provides the underpinnings of society. If the underpinnings lacks quality nutrients and dirt (culture and religion), the plant (people) will never grow to its full capacity. Hindu Bengal next door is just as shitty and they haven't been run or influenced by Islam for over 200+ years. Hindu India in general has precisely the same problems of over-population and corruption. Vietnam, Laos, Burma and Cambodia have the same problems as Bangladesh too. No real influence of Islam in any of those places. The entirety of Christian Africa are even shittier than Bangladesh, no history of Islam there at all.

    We're all critics of Islam here and we can agree it's a highly negative influence. But there comes a point when you drive over a cliff in your zeal to bash the religion and simply find blame where there are none. A nation is a very complex entity and saying X factor is solely to blame for issues A to Z is pretty dumb.

    It's obvious you don't know a lot about Bangladesh, we're not a middle-eastern country.

    Well, to be fair kafirist, you perhaps need to explain the shittiness of next door India to the Bangladeshis, so that they stop coming here in such huge numbers( And trust me, its huge numbers, I've met way too many, I know them all by their accent), I've been to Kolkata & a lot of the people on the streets making the place shitty have very Bangladeshi accents, I've spoken to such a family on the street who honestly told me they'd immigrated only some years back Also, I've seen Bangladeshis living in Mumbai slums & telling me that they work in so & so hotel.

    So please, with due respect, as you rightly recognize how shitty India is, I hope this message can be passed onto the Bangladeshis as well, coz as you said, all the problems of poverty, corruption & over population do exist in India too, we're not in a position to do charity to a lot of people, who don't bring many valuable skill sets with them & who, unlike Afghanistan, don't live in some war torn nation but in a reasonably thriving democracy. We have difficulty enough providing for all the citizens who do live here, we can scarcely manage to provide for all sorts of unskilled migrants, nor should we feel any obligation to do so, given that there's no real war or turmoil brewing in Bangladesh.

    Looks like the knowledge of India's shittyness hasn't reached the millions of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.  Wink

    As I said, I found BD decent, people are extremely hospitable, a white woman, or may white women can walk around in itsy bitsy bits without being(in general) harassed, something which is a problem in some non Western nations, I like the habits of reading & general religious & ethnic tolerance. I like the fact that one of my friends' aunt's a lesbian, settled in USA with another African American lesbian, & her religious Muslim family still love & welcome that aunt.

    However, as I said to kafirist, I really don't see that much reason to be very welcoming of any illegal immigrants, given that its not that we were Bangladesh's past colonizers, India itself is quite a poor nation & Bangladesh isn't in any sort of turmoil, so if we have a bit more I think its fair that India's people should benefit from those, than any illegal immigrants. I also don't like groups like Islamist terrorist group Huji(Harkat ul Jihad Islami) operating from BD in India, especially if they plant terrorist attacks in India's tourism hubs like Jaipur & drive away all the foreign tourists, adversely affecting incomes. Also, they don't bring any valuable contributions, which would make it somewhat worthwhile, they take the most unskilled jobs which should rightly belong to an Indian, or live in the streets of the bigger cities doing not much, but dirtying the cities.

    India too  has enough of such problems from its own citizens, we're in no position economically of supporting anyone else, nor is there any obligation on us to do that, given there's no history of past colonizations & an only bit better economic situation whose fruits should go to its own citizens.

    Bangladesh has a space agency too.
