4th generation indian (but not living in india).
my whole family is muslim. I have this urge to rediscover where i come from before being muslim.
i dont know if hinduism is true or not, but i know for certain i am not muslim

Regarding converting to Hunduism, I would say probably this is your very strong reaction to Islam.

I have been considering changing my name for a while. I have not done this so far because I am still a Pakistani national (though I live in the UK). I may change my name at some juncture but that would be a spelling change, as my name is kinda universal name. I gave my daughter a non-Muslim name.

I called my kids Persian names.

I like Persian names and wish that I'd given my son a Persian name. Some Arab names have nice meanings in and of themselves, without having to resort to anything religious.

as long as you did not call your kids Abu Bakr or Abdullah, then you're off the hook

I hate my name :( My parents changed mine when I was in year 3 and got the suggestion from the Khalifah at the time....nobody can pronounce it and it's generally a pain in the ass.

I want my simple name back :(

A couple of months ago, another one of my cousins was named Abdul Something (It is very popular in my family at the moment). I went on this big rant about how people are obsessed with Islamic names at the moment and nobody ever names their kids persian or urdu names anymore. If you look at my parents generation and above, Persian and Urdu names such as Riaz, Imtiaz, Parvez, etc. were very common but now it is just Islamic names. Maybe they think people will think they are more religious if they name their kids Abdul Hakeem or something like that.

If I ever have kids, I definitely won't give them Islamic names. I will probably give them urdu or persian names. Its just something I remember my dad saying when I was asking my sister if Omar Sharif was a Muslim. My dad said "Of course he is a Muslim! His name is Omar Sharif!"

Funny, he was born a Catholic Egyptian, his First name was michel, can't remember his last. He became a muslim to marry some muslim actress. One of his sons is a muslim today. He co-owns "Pizza Thomas" in Cairo, the only pizza that openly puts ham as a condiment. He even sells ham. Not just he delivers but the pizza rocks as well.

That says it. If you change your religion to marry a girl, then you know that Atheism is around the corner! Cheesy

WikiP says he has denied Atheism and says he's a good muslim who made Hajj not too long ago, but there are articles/interviews that he says he Atheist, his son's Atheist, and he has a Jewish son. Who knows.

    So true.  Cheesy

I always wondered how someone can just change their religion, especially when it's done solely to marry someone from a different religious background. I mean, what, till yesterday you believed that we're living in Kali Yuga and today you have just completely turned over a new leaf and are anxiously awaiting the Mahdi's return? LOL, the ridiculousness of religious beliefs is really obvious when you start to consider how easily some people just change them for social/political reasons or just to get laid.

You should change your name to a star trek character like Aidoann Saeihr. Why not? Time to move on from the old cultural baggage and invent new improved cultural baggage. Convert to Romulan.

    Here rock out with it:

For myself, I think I'll give my kids Hawaiian names with traditional Roman middle names (not those lame christianized ones, but real ones like Titus). They'll be awesome:

"Hay, get over here Kawikani Cato....and bring Iukikina Aquila with you. "

Just try and pigeon hole them...haha

I considered changing my name and my childrens name, they face a future in which everytime someone hears their name they will assume they are muslim, and my children with have to learn to answer in whatever way they feel comfortable with, which seems so unfair to them.

I'm also sick of people asking me if I;m muslim when they hear my name too, I'd rather not have to keep going through this little dance.

But I haven't yet, still not 100% sure I ever will.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

My middle name's Persian. My Dad (it's his name) doesn't like it... but I do.
