    And yes, im talking about honor here. Not the twisted sense of honor that exists in other Armys... im talking about real honor. A Soldier only kills in War, and his weapon rests in times of peace! The End!


    Any reference to support your claim that Swiss people are allowed to have weapons?

    We have, outside of the military, really strict firearm regulations and laws. Its only the Military weapons we store at home.

    I dont think i have to proof something like that, its just fact. but if you wanna know more, here you go:

    And no, i think what affects gun related crime the most is poverty, not how available guns are. In switzerland we have a universal healthcare system and a social system that helps people during times they have no work.

    DigDeep, I think I misunderstood your previous posts and thought that Swiss people (public) are allowed to have weapons just like in the USA. Now I understand that only military personnel can keep arms. I am asking this because last night I was talking with a group of friends and I said that the Switzerland does not ban owning a rifle and no body believed me. That is why I asked you if you have any reference online that there is no ban on firearms in Switzerland. I thought the thread was about Gun Control in general, and your post did not specify that only military personals are allowed to have guns at home.  Huh?

    You see you did not say every soldier or every ex-solider, you said every Citizen Huh? That mislead be to believe that there is no Gun control in Switzerland  Huh?

    Yea, well, thats because almost every male citizen is a soldier too. Ever male in Switzerland has to go to the military, and woman can chose to.

    But yea, im sorry this confused you. But every citizen = every Soldier here.  Afro

    No. We have 15 weeks of training when we are around 20 Years old, then we have to keep our Equipment until our active service Time is over. Thats when we are 30, later for the higher ranks. But we dont have to give it back, we can keep it if we want till we die... then it goes back to the military.

    Lots of my older friends gave back their equipment but still have their Military Weapons at home. Its your own choice and responsibility.

    I am very sad that UK has not legalised guns and live in hope Conservatives will.

    I am 100% against gun control, in that respect. It is one of the biggest things i respect and admire the United States about. It has not fallen for the European crap of 'guns kill people'. No dear, people kill people.
    If we outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns.

    Is it any wonder London is so dangerous? Only the criminals and hoodies have weapons. The law abiding citizens have been stripped of their power to defend themselves forced to rely on our pathetic police and the state.

    In London they have knives and that's why it's dangerous. I lived in West London for a long time, and I was held up at knife point 3 times and saw them hundreds of times

    Your analogy is poor I must say, just because London is a crime ridden city doesn't mean legalising guns would solve that problem-in fact the gangstas of London would probably be twice as dangerous with guns.

    Bullshit. You must live a very sheltered life.
    I live near Brixton. I have seen guns plenty of times along with drugs and knives in the hands of the gangs especially PDC.

    What a typical rhetoric.
    No, what it does is put the law abiding citizen on equal footing with the criminal.
    Will a criminal be more likely to mug or attempt to rape someone if there is a high possibility that the victim is going to armed.
    I doubt it.

    If you do not wish to own a gun. Fair do. But do not take away other peoples right to defend themselves and their homes.

    Don't make assumptions about me please, I wouldn't do the same.

    Of course guns will still be available but imagine how much easier it would be to obtain if they were legalised. Now it's the most hardcore criminals who have guns, but any John Dick and Mitch would have access otherwise, why do you think knifecrime is high?

    Equal footing my ass, think about it this way, to a criminal shooting you would be another few years on an inevitable prison sentence and if he is in a gang then they can bail him. Right now sentences for gun crimes are considerably higher than they would be if it were legal, because the charge of possession often adds a long sentence. You on the other hand would lose a lot from pulling the trigger.

    Also, a criminal can hold you at gun point from behind even if you already have a gun it would be useless.

    Furthermore-I don't wish to own a gun, but also, I don't wish for criminals to have the right to own guns-I don't want anarchy and I don't want US gun culture here. Apparantly I am not alone, how many parties (apart from the BNP) are pro-gun?

    Its not about guns or people kill people.

    Its about how a specific society thinks about weapons.

    In switzerland, at a verry young age, our parents tell us that weapons are bad. They are not good for anything and are only used under extreme conditions. I can count the gunnuts in my country with 5 fingers.

    This education will be repeated by our teachers and later our Military Officers. Everyone tells us, guns are bad, we only have them to be prepared for the worst case scenario aka War. We all learn how to use Guns, but we actually dont like them.

    But in other regions of the world, Weapons equel power. If you have a gun, people listen to you. If you need food, and you have no other means then to steal it, its much easier with a gun in your hand.

    Switzerland has, as i said before, a great social network where noone is left behind. So there is actually no need to rob/kill somone for basic needs.

    In the UK, wich right now has so much aggression stored, legalizing guns would be like giving the nuclear codes to the Joker. But on the other hand, all the criminals in London have the means to get their hands onto firearms. The question is, do they want that?

    And one thing i have to say. If somone today wants to buy a gun, dousnt matter where in the world, he will get one. Weapons were and are the one thing you get EVERYWHERE in the world if you look for them. So, legal or not, its mor about society itself and how it deals with Guns, then about gun control or no gun control.

    Yes, and the British government, in all of its wisdom, also prevents you from carrying a knife, an ASP baton, pepper spray or anything else you could use to defend yourself from such thugs. Your country's laws have effectively made exercising the right of self-defense through the carrying of defensive weapons a criminal act. You can be a cop, a victim, a criminal, or maybe some kind of bad-ass Krav Maga expert who spent years training how disarm people effectively-- but basically those are the only options your government has given you vis-a-vis street crime. There are many states and cities in the US (especially the urban Northeast) which also take a similarly shabby view of your right to defend yourself (like NYC for instance).

    No way. The Tories are exactly the same as Labour on this issue. I don't think even the Liberal Democrats are arguing for this. The BNP are probably the most likely to come out in favor of it, but I seriously doubt they'd let civilians have guns if they ever came into power. Your country's pretty much fucked on this issue. If you want to exercise your natural right to take reasonable precautions for self-defense by arming yourself, you are a criminal in the eyes of your government, and barring a revolution, that is unlikely to ever change.
