  • We're by no means at the end yet
     OP - October 12, 2009, 05:42 PM

Someone has just sent me this video on my youtube channel, and its made me realise we are by no means at the end yet.  It seems to me that there is a lot of hidden resentment among the non-muslim community and videos like this will sadly channel it.

In 30-40 years time, as countries lose their borders it would not surprise me if we just have 2 worlds left, an Islamic & non-Islamic one (that is if a nuclear war doesnt finish us of first)

Nah. There's too many differences within every group. Have a look at the history of the "islamic conquest" in the middle ages. This is often simplified as "The muslims vs the Europeans" but in fact there was rivalry within both groups and more often than not muslim and christian groups cooperated against a common enemy. Today's Spain in particular saw a constant stream of new coalitions being formed and old ones being broken.

IsLame, isn't this how many Muslims look at the world anyway?

A feature of the Islamic worldview is this division of humanity into manichean blocks -- the ummah v the kaffir.

Certain aspects of Islam seem to have real trouble accomodating itself to the realities of plurality and multiple simultaneous identities.

This is a great cause of friction and even existential unease and self-alienation amongst Muslims. It is like a grand collective sulk.

Most definitely.  I remember looking at something similar to the first graph in my local mosque at the age of about 11

This is what distinguishes Islam today -- the imperial mission that is at the centre of it. People look at that and they feel disturbed.

Islamic fundamentalism has been funded by and helped by the same western imperialism that it pretends to be fighting. During the cold war, Islamic fundamentalist groups were created, sponsored and mobilized by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia as a buffer to the encroaching atheist communists of the former USSR.

Thus, whenever Muslims support Islamism and Islamic fundamentalism, they're as much supporting and following along with the same exact western-capitalist-christian imperialism that they think they are resisting.

    Don't you love irony?  Cheesy

Islamic imperialism is as dangerous as western imperialism, but it will probably run out of steam a lot sooner (as oil and oil dependency disappear).

    What is 'the non-muslim community'?

We already have two worlds: Those who own and control the means of living, and everyone else.

The opposition of an 'Islamic' world to a 'non-Islamic' one is imaginary, it being a reactionary ideological creation.

The video by that dodgy 'Clarion Fund' group, again. They've now produced a sequel, by the way. This kind of thing, although concerning, is something with very limited impact. Therefore I'm not drawing any pessimistic conclusions from it.
