But Paloma you've got no evidence that he did say it.  You've got two blogsters claiming  that he said it, but their external links do not back up their claim.  Have you any reliable source at all, because this is looking more and more like an urban myth.

True, but as one of the blogster said : "WHY HAS THE MAINSTREAM PRESS SAID NOTHING ABOUT THIS?"  If he did say it and it was suppressed, that is worrying dont you think ?

Whether he said it or not, he did put pressure on the authorities to ban Wilders and succeeded in the first instance and that is also worrying or dont you think so ?

Anyway, you accuse Arthur et al of blowing the threat of radical Islam out of proportion, but it seems to me that you are minimizing it and you are focusing on his remarks about Sharia, whereas he has mentionned other worries. I dont know about Britain and Ireland, but in Denmark, in all the major cities we now have no go areas, like the one mentionned in my post http://www.councilofexmuslims.com/index.php?topic=7155.msg177362#msg177362
which has been largely ignored. In a Copenhagen suburb called Tingbjerg, the buses have stopped running at night, the vicarage has been put up for sale and the priest is on sick leave after years of harassment, vicarage windows smashed, vicarage broken into and vandalised, die written in blood on the vicarage door etc. The priest is openly homosexual, whether it is this fact or Christianity that has caused the harassment, who knows.

In Aarhus (2nd largest city in Denmark) dumpsters, cars, schools and nurseries have been put on fire and in an estate largely,as Tingbjerg, populated by immigrants, Greenlanders have been harassed to the point where they have had to move out.

Is it not legitimate to find this worrying ?

As for the Sharia courts in Britain, yes they only effect a tiny minority... now, but is it not better to nip it in the bud ?

With respect to Engerland (is that really what they chant ?) EDL may be overly nationalistic, I dont know enough about it to judge, but what is wrong with feeling a great attachment to and love for the place you were born and raised ? Why must it be sneered at and mocked ? It is as if the mere mention of England and English brings on this reaction from some of the posters here.

Probably because its an urban myth.  What is the Brussels Journal's original source for this, do you know?  Because as far as I can see they seem to have plucked it out of thin air and then other blogsters ran with it.  The only source they give is an article in the Pakistani press which doesn't mention anything about 10,000 muslims.  The minute it was mentioned in the mainstream media, (The Spectator article IsLame linked to), Lord Ahmed denied it.

Most urban myths would be worrying if they were true.

As for the rest of your post, I made my feelings about the Home Secretary's decision quite clear at the time - I think it was a stupid, craven decision.  I think I've also made my feelings about the EDL clear on other threads too - they are  mostly a bunch of fascists, despite that a few of them seem decent enough.  Go and take a look at their forum if you don't believe me.

I don't know much about what's going on in Denmark, but maybe you could post some stories and enlighten us?

So, Cheetah, you have before you the filmed evidence of Lord Pearson categorically stating that Lord Ahmed said he'd put 10,000 muslims on the streets (I know you can't see it but I assume you concede it is indeed there, which it is).

On the other hand, you can see a throwaway bit of text on an internet page supposedly from Lord Ahmed saying he denies saying it.  Nothing further just that he 'denies' it.

Now, based on a preponderance of the evidence before you, you are now stating that you don't believe the filmed, spoken testimony of one Lord, and that you do believe a single line purportedly from another Lord.

Now, that tells me a heck of a lot about you, your principles and belief system, and it aint pretty from where I'm standing.

I haven't seen your evidence yet, which is why I haven't stated either way whether or not I believe his claim.  You'll just have to hold your horses on that one.

Yes, I've noticed that many EDL members are prone to jumping to hysterical conclusions.  It doesn't surprise me that mere skepticism in the face of a lack of evidence would cause you to jump to all kinds of dark conclusions about the skeptic.

Still, we'll see when I've managed to watch your vid.

Those sound worse than anything going on in Ireland certainly.  Britain has problem areas, but nothing like to the extent that the EDL would have you believe.

You should post a thread about that story you mentioned about Greenlanders being hassled out of their homes.  That sounds like an interesting one.   Afro

I'm trying to point out the dangers we face and I honestly think that the danger is greater than you think, if you look round Europe you will see that there is a lot going on, almost every weekend in France muslims are seting fire to cars and as Paloma points out,his/her country is having problems.

No, Muslims are not setting fire to cars every weekend. During the past years, there have been some incidents of violent protest from dissatisfied youth. This has nothing to do with religion, it is a result of social problems.

I personally feel that sharia law needs to be completely stamped out.  There is no place for it in the UK.

I realise that there is no imminent danger of sharia law in the sense of parliament implementing it

Thank-you - thats the only point I was trying to make.  Can you get the rest of your group to agree on this point

Take it easy, IsLame - I am also very wary and concerned about the EDL and their tactics. (And I didn't pm anyone in case that's what you're thinking.)

I just think we need to be fair and rational and not let emotions get to us.

I am also guilty of this and if you remember when Arthur first came on the forum I tore into him and EDL and was even asked by the mods to remove some offensive language.

But getting angry or emotional gets us nowhere . Let's just be fair and calm and rational - that's all.

Just to clarify, the private messages of support on here were not from anybody that has contributed to this thread.

Also to clarify, Paloma is indeed right, I would like to see Sharia completely stamped out.  There are 10 'official' Sharia courts right now, with a further 76 unofficial, I assume these figures to be uncontested.  The only bone of contention is whether or not they are a threat to the legal justice system in this country.

At present, they are not.  I state that quite categorically.

However, it is a separate entity to the legal justice system and this is causing division, or further division between social groups within the UK.  Once there is division, communication breaks down and the 'other' group becomes demonised, and it leads to one thing, then another, then another.  Before you know it, protection laws are made for one social group, and it can only get worse.

Sharia is not a solution, it is a problem, and a bloody gigantic one at that.  At least it has the potential.  So, 'one law for all' would appear to be a good slogan, a very good one.

Nice bit of subterfuge earlier from Tony, the only information he game me about 'Marshy' was a link to a book on Amazon, and saying he'd been involved in football violence.  So I of course saw nothing wrong with a published author, and yes some people within EDL are from football violence backgrounds.  Then once I post up that I didn't see a problem he reveals that Marshy had stabbed someone and served time and all that.  A clear attempt to show me as some kind of criminal cohort.

Well, if Marshy has done that, and he has served time, then I find myself saying 'so what?'  I am not a judge, so I wont judge him.  He's done the time society set for him, so that in my opinion is the end of that.  I know someone who did time twice.  Once for attempted murder, and once for murder, same guy, he got him the second time.  If you knew why he murdered him you might feel more sympathetic, as the victim was not an innocent party.  We don't know the details, we aren't judges, so let's just leave it at that and stop playing games.

Those figures I have seen several times in different places.  However, I don't think it is the exact number that is an issue.  Even if there were only one of these courts, then we have a problem.  And even those on here who don't see a problem with Sharia courts openly acknowledge that they do in fact exist.
