  • Fatwa against Zakir Naik
     OP - December 03, 2009, 09:05 AM

    According to:

    http://www.zeenews.com/video/showvideo529.html

There has been a fatwa issued against Zakir Naik - unfortunately it is in a language I don't understand. Anyone able to give an overview as to the specifics?

The clip says that Zakir Naik has supported Al-Quaida and Osama in his speeches. So a Quazi(A Sunni authority ) from Lucknow (City in India) has issued a Fatwa against him. He stated that "Terrorism is a  very big problem in todays world and it brings a common Muslim under suspicion. In this scenario, Naik is propagating terrorism by supporting Osama".
Indian Sunni Muslims are divided regarding Fatwa.

I will be glad if the Quazi has taken this step with a sincere motive. However, it is very much likely that Quazi is jealous of Zakir Naik's popularity amongst muslims and wanted to create some kind of publicity for himself.

    Quote
Intro (female host): "For people who think that in the name of religion they can justify terrorism and incite hatred, this story has advice for them. Lucknow's qazi (priest) has generated a fatwa against Zakir Naik. Naik and Osama bin Laden share similar ideologies."

News (male voiceover): "Zakir Naik, of "PeaceTV" in India, is considered an Islamic authority. But he's been accused of teetering close to Bin Laden's thinking in his extreme points of view. But what do the people think to whom he is speaking (Muslims)? A Qazi from the city of Lucknow has issued a fatwa."

Qazi: "We had a discussion between many groups of Muslims, both Shia and Sunni, about Naik's ridiculous ideas. Among the offensive things he's said is that we should pray to Allah for the murderer of Hussain, Yazid, to be forgiven. Yazid was a cruel, corrupt, alcoholic, gambler, who wanted to legalize incest (with mothers and sisters)."

voiceover: "The Maulana (Qazi) says that terrorism is among the world's biggest problems. And that it is due to the terrorists that the world views Muslims with suspicion. In this context, by promoting Bin Laden's views, Naik is actually promoting terrorism with his words."

Qazi: "Sure there's a concept of Jihad, but if you go and attack someone's home, go and blow up a bomb somewhere, blow up a train, this is all against Islam. In many places, many people are doing these things in the name of Islam, it's all fear-mongering (terrorism). Fear-mongering is different from Jihad, which is for the sake of Allah. And even so, it's not up to just anyone to go and wage Jihad."

voiceover: "It's not only the Shias who are supporting the fatwa against Naik. Sunnis are split on the issue, some are for it and some against. No matter the sects, this fatwa has sparked a new debate on the matter. And it has further confirmed that terrorism doesn't have any 1 religion."

I think I got the gist of it there.

"Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused."

Bangladesh is a reasonably tolerant nation, but I do know from my years there that if a Hindu or Christian preached the stuff Zakir Naik or Amjed Choudhury freely do in India & Britain respectively, they'd be expelled from that nation, imprisoned & probably worse.  finmad

Give me someone like Mother Teresa any day, or even the Pentecostal preachers, unlike Zakir Naik's shyte, they'd do loads of good for education, for orphans, for the poor & the sick, & while the pentecostals might, just might, preach hellfire for disbelievers, even they'd not support stuff like wife beating or women covering all their body in the sub continent's weather.

I always find Zakir Naik shallow, it is so easy to see through his arguments and his understanding about Hinduism is really bad.

Fatwa for what?  This guy issued a fatwa that it is haram to listen to or attend Naik's lectures?  What is the fiqh topic here?  Or is he just saying 'This guy sucks' and they're calling it a fatwa?

It doesn't really matter how you find him Calm, it matters how Muslims find him & I know plenty, who adore him & hang onto his every word. I believe that some of the ex Muslim members here have also posted about how their moms\ family members love him.

Its not only falling for such people which baffles me, but the danger they pose. At least Harun Yahya lives in an almost fully Islamized Turkey, Naik & Amjed Choudhury live off the tolerance of the non Muslims.

Banning Zakir Naik won't accomplish much imo. The problem lies in Muslim minds, Zakir Naik is simply a very visible manifestation of the problem.

I don't get how all these people fall for this skinny little dork and think he's just so awesome. Even my mom thinks he's great (peace TV watcher). I just facepalm when my mom tries tell me to watch Zakir Naik saying he's very 'scientific' and that I can 'relate' to him. LOL

My Bangladeshi friends that I'm in touch with think he's shit. So do most of my Muslim schoolfriends in India.

My cousins who lived in UK for many years loved him, so did my uncle.

I think, & this is something I'm only guessing, that he's got a lot of support from Muslims settled in the West, something Zakir Naki's arrogance makes many Muslims have the false assumption that their faith has loads of valuable & beautiful stuff to contribute to the world & this brave & erudite man is proclaiming the "beauty" of Islam & winning the West over.

That is exactly what it is. Their low self-esteem makes them elevate him, because he talks stupidness about the superiority of Islam and the inferiority of everyone else. Its all part of their comfort zone of delusion.

I dislike him because of the bullshit he spews on 911. He completely regirgitates the loosechange stuff that has already been debunked.
