The hijab is oppressive which is forced on many women by their family, hence I'm glad they ban it and wish other countries would do too.
First of all, they have not banned hijab, they were talking about banning burqa/niqab-- but they have not yet actually legislated a ban to my knowledge.
Second, what of women who do not have it forced upon them by family? Single converts, for example? You would have the government restrict their religious expression? Nothin liberal about that.
And what of Orthodox Jewish women? Where exactly does the ban on religious dress end?
Don't know anything about the wholesale bans though.
By wholesale bans, I mean broad, blanket bans on things. Such bans are generally illiberal and authoritarian, and are advocated by/legislated by uncreative, intolerant, impatient and lazy nanny-staters.
ETA: Not all government bans, but I think as a general rule it's true.
