Mm exactly. Maybe one day Islam will have to go through the same thing? I doubt it though, there hasn't been a single Muslim scholar/scientist of Galileo's stature since... Islam first came about? Plus there isn't a major institution in Islam like the Catholic Church, there are way too many sects and madthabs.

From what I have seen, one of the main problems is the fact that most Muslims literally interpret the quran as the revealed word of Allah.  Therefore anything that contradicts would be blasphemy.  There isn't much room to maneuver about.

Ofcourse the priests would laugh at us. If priests did not laugh at us, we would have to ask what we are doing wrong.

No in this case they would be laughing at you for a very good reason....  Over here the days when they could manipulate people to that extent are long gone.  Good riddance.

@ras yupp, sad but true. I think muslims will be reformed in increments, mostly starting in the West. Doubt there will be a great Enlightenment period for the Ummah.

Once Saudi oil runs out, I don't see why there shouldn't be mass secularisation and the emergence of less hardcore versions of Islam.  Societies might even become far more tolerant.

Because it is the spirit of the Roman Catholic church to murder anyone that does not agree with her.

I have bad news for you... Galileo was not murdered :S

Maybe you're mixing it up with Giordano Bruno?

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.

    Saudi oil won't run out!

It's protected by Allah according to some Muslim friends of mine, when I raised this point about it running out and they will struggle to fund the spread of Wahabbism in the future. Actually there is other Muslims who believe the oil in Saudi won't run out, purely because it's in Saudi, and Saudi is the Holy land, and protected from that.

    Huh?

For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who refuse to understand, no explanation is possible.

I guess the followup question would be who found the oil? And who extracted it for the Saudis?

If they were poor today, and just discovered oil, your statement would have been:

"Once Saudi start selling oil and get rich, and educated, and their lives become better,  I don't see why there shouldn't be mass secularisation and the emergence of less hardcore versions of Islam.  Societies might even become far more tolerant. "

    Huh?

Plenty of American fundies also believe that the resources available on Earth are so much as to be considered 'infinite' as well as Earth being so big that nothing we do can affect its atmosphere.

Ultimately they think Earth is protected and that Earth has an expiry date on it. The idea is, we will reach the expiry date of the 6000yrs old Earth much earlier then us running out of resources.

    Jesus Fucking Christ.

I think you misunderstood me..  What I was saying was there will be nothing to fund the Wahhabi's agenda and they will not be able to spread their views around the world and fund mosques and schools.  I am not surprised at all about the way things went in Saudi Arabia..

Makes sense, when Saudi runs out, the rest of the world will be better off, regardless how saudi themselves will fare. Also any change is a good change when their status quo is such shayt.

Shaneequa, if you blocked JC because of his CEMB name, then you really are fucking stupid.
