Even from a country rife with corruption we must remember there IS a NORMAL DISTRIBUTION and there ARE good Bengali's out there, especially like this chap.

I'm a good guy too. E.g. amazon sent me a book and I though it got lost in the post (work college actually had it while I was away one day) so Amazon sent me another. When I found the original, I sent the other one back. Little things like that.

Perhaps we should have another thread on this to see whose done the nicest most selfless thing ever!  Wink

I am seriously unsure about the seriousness of this thread.....  Undecided

I saw an old woman kicking her shopping basket around the supermarket, so I asked her if she needed help carrying it which she accepted, so I walked with her through the rest of the store chatting with her and getting the rest of what she wanted, and went as far as the checkout and placing her items on the conveyor belt before saying 'You have a nice day now ma'am' and going back to stacking shelves.

I worked at the supermarket, though I didnt see one other person offer any help even though she had already been through half of the store.

But ?5 an hour is hardly worth it for anyone to bother to do something like that if working in a supermarket, but I can be nice if I want to be.

We keep hearing about how Jack Straw or the French government have mentioned the veil and our doing so puts us in the same boat as them. How so? I want a ban on the burka, neqab and child veiling.

     wacko Okaaaaaaay.

I always do nice things for people, I'm one of those retardedly super nice hippies you see going over board with the help, but I think islam trained me so well on this topic, that it feels wrong to boast about any individual thing.

Like earlier in the shoutbox, tommy wanted to know who had donated to haiti and how much, and it fel boastful to reply.  I was taught that charity and charitable acts were done privately and not for applause, and that's a lesson that sticks mostly.  It just feels right.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

I once helped a nice Nigerian politician , after he emailed me blindly, (he was desperate) who needed an accomplice to help him secure the funds of his wealthy late father into an UK bank (mine) so that the Nigerian, gestapo like authoriities wouldn't take it away from him. Of course, he was going to cut me in, it was a multi million pound deal, to which I would have made a million myself. Unfortunately my good deed went awry upon finding out my account had been cleaned out. Dear Mr Nbagongo, it transpired had been kidnapped by gangsters, who had then taken my details from him - at least that what he told me. Smiley

    Ha Ha.

I used to work at Tower Records and one day this blind woman came in and, having worked as a student aide to the blinds students at my college I kinda felt it was my duty to help this lady.  I helped her pick out her purchase and then she asked if I could help her get across the busy street to get home.  I asked my boss if I could leave the premises to aid this lady and he grudgingly gave me the ok but not without warning me that I would have to clock out for the time I was spending to help her across the road to get home.  I thought that was extremely selfish of my boss but I just ignored him and left the shop with the blind woman and helped her to get home.  My boss thought I was crazy to do such a thing but I reminded him that she was a customer and as far as I was aware it was our duty to help the customers, therefore I was helping out a customer by helping her get home!

My other nice deed was a few years earlier when, for some reason, this group of boys in my high school art class decided to start bully me.  I was a SENIOR for chrissakes and they were a year or two behind me.  One day as I was working on a large landscape I was painting one of the kids decided to try and make me mess my painting up by pointing a laser pointer right at the spot where I was painting.  Every time I turned around he would quickly hide his laser pointer and his friends would all be sniggering behind their hands.  When I spoke to my teacher about it he would do nothing.  Finally I snapped, walked up to him and as he futilly tossed the laser pointer across the table to one of his friends I snatched his cap off his head and SMACKED him REALLY HARD across the back of his head!  GOD, it felt great to do that!  He and his friends then started to threaten to kick my ass but I knew they didn't have the guts to do it, plus I would have kicked their asses with my steel toed Army-issue jungle boots which I always wore at the time.

These same twerps eventually tore a hole in my painting and I had to transfer to another class as I was too close to graduation and at the end of my tether to put up with their juvenile crap! finmad

I agree with that. It's been tempting to go around blaring to everyone posting links about where and how to donate, how much, when and to whom I've donated, but I just think it comes off as crass. It's better to spread the word and let people's conscience guide them than try to use your own donation as a measuring stick. Some may be able to donate 10,000 dollars/pounds/euros/whatevers, some 100, others can afford 10. It's really about doing it for the sake of doing it, not to show off, not to make others feel bad, but to help someone to whom your "spare change" whether it's a million bucks or 5, can make a world of a difference.

Some people can't afford to give money at all, but can and do help in other ways (volunteering time and technical skills, for instance is a huge help for many humanitarian and other social organizations), it's all good.
