Let's not miss the point that the woman in the hijab is trying to make when she says that she chooses to wear it. The reason the statement carries such importance (hence why we hear it uttered again and again) is because it goes against the popular conception that the Muslim woman has no freedom. Therefore, the statement is supposed to be a general declaration of freedom. The Muslim woman does have a choice and the political/legal freedom to wear the hijab. However, the Muslim woman is under considerable pressure of the illusory prospect of an afterlife in hell. Can we really say she is free? Indeed this applies not just to this particular command to wear the hijab but all of Allah's commands.
The unlived life is not worth examining.
