  • Hello, everyone!
     OP - February 17, 2010, 07:16 AM

After a few weeks of lurking this site, I decided to join the forum. Smiley

So ok, a wee bit about myself- I'm a 21 year old Arab female who's having the veil lifted off her eyes, slowly but surely (heh). Hard as I try to rationalize Islamic doctrine, it just isn't compatible with reason and logic. :/ I still publicly identify as a Muslim, but in my heart I'm on the verge of turning apostate. Or perhaps I already am one. loldenial.

Not much of an introduction, but hopefully you'll get to know me more with time.

P.S: Hassan, your blog and videos are awesome. Kudos!  great

Do you think you'd have an easy time apostatizing? I hope it works out, it will be such a liberating experience I am sure.  Afro

Not sure. I live amongst a religious family, where the very idea of raising doubts would send tempers flaring. This has happened many times before, when I questioned the hijab (which I still wear, unfortunately, even though I don't believe in it whatsoever  Cry) and the absurdity of following scholars without question. Middle-Eastern parents. Gah!  finmad

It most certainly will be liberating once I break free, though extremely lonely without family support. But what to do- you can't force yourself to believe.
    *sigh*

Welcome ya qalbi....  It doesn't have to get too lonely for you, always keep your mind open.  May everything turn out for the best eventually

Dont rush into any decisions, and take opinions of members here with a pinch of salt - come to your own conclusions after seeing both sides of the story and independent investigation.  You dont have to be an exmuslim/apostate to lurk around here  Afro

P.S  How did you come across Hass's videos, was it by accident/ a random search on youtube?

Aw, thanks. :') I need to stay positive.

Thanks for the advice, IsLame. I read through your blog, very eye-opening. Afro

I first stumbled onto Hassan's blog while searching for exmuslim stories. It really touched me, and surprised me too. Who would have thought that someone who was Muslim for so long, and is so well-versed in the Quran and ahadith would leave Islam! It totally contradicts statements made by arrogant muslims that "apostates never understood their deen/ followed the wrong teachings/etc.". After the blog came the videos- loved them all. Smiley

Haha, indeed! We need videos like his to get through the thick skulls of the ummah. Almost impossible, but we can hope!  Tongue

Ah, I don't mind telling. I'm Yemeni, but living in UAE. And you? grin12

I believe it is more difficult because you are a girl, boys are privileged.. Even in extreme religious families boys can break-out. I'm not very much sure about the Arabs though because for you guys it's a matter of culture as well..

Good Luck for a good future..  Afro

Welcome BeyT. Get stuck in then lol. Seems like your a bit confused right now maybe, or just trying to come to terms with how you feel so I echo the thoughts previosly mentioned, stay positive.

    summary of? my dear Dawg

The link is basically an article about some manuscripts found in Yemen, which put somewhat of a huge question as to how "pure" the quran is.

And me, i have 2 gods, 1 god is everything that has, does and will exist = a "divine" thing and thus i call it "god" (isnt a proper one), and my other god is something in my mind which keeps me on the right track, sort of questions the goodness of my actions and allows me to learn etc.

    summary of? my dear Dawg

Of that article. I'm reading through it. Can't wait till I order Puin's new book. What I heard was that he had to take photographs of the samples? Because he was getting kicked out? Or something rather conspiratory like that.
  • Re: Hello, everyone!
     Reply #25 - February 17, 2010, 07:18 PM

yep he did have to and now nobody is allowed access really and the manuscripts are in a dodgy place where they could easily be damaged (very very handy for any agency trying to protect the status quo and stop much questioning)
