Hassan, when I wrote the following I was actually being quite serious:

The point I was trying to get across however was that most Muslims use water because it's Sunnah. It's has got nothing to do with the fact that using water produces better results - it's pure indoctrination.
If you look into it you will find that the very act of writing on a paper has a special historical significance (sacred status) because of scarcity of paper/papyrus in the 7th century Arabia. It's purely an ideological problem - in Islam possibility and actuality are often fused - the verses of Quran may have been written on that particular (or any for that matter) piece of paper therefore the use of toilet paper is forbidden regardless of the fact that a particular piece of paper hasn't got verses of Quran printed on it.
    Ideology at its purest.

And I am still waiting for a sensical response from iffo, because his initial reply was totally pathetic:
I don't know who told you all  that, or you just made it up. What you wrote about paper been sacred and all that is not true, its all about cleanliness and we don't feel just tissue make you clean. But if I stick around I will try to educate you more about some misconceptions.

Seriously, there is a lot more to ass-wiping than meets the eye.

If Islam introduced water, then what were the Chritians/Jews using beforehand.  I doubt tissue roll existed then  Huh?

Indeed Hassan, the bottom line is that this topic is really quite silly.  Some people here are really at a loose end.

    BTW,

another Sunni Hadith used by anti-Islam sites as another evidence for allowing the marriage of little girls is the Hadith where the prophet said to one of his companions that he should have married a virgin so that they could play with each other...

First off "play" is not the accurate translation, but anyway, the meaning of that Hadith according to Orthodox Sunnis is that a virgin wife is more joyful, if you will, with her husband, and it's easier for a virgin to become attached to her husband than a it is for a previously married woman.

      http://audio.islamweb.net/audio/index.php?page=FullContent&audioid=178441

Yet this Hadith along with the other one (silence of a virgin is acceptance) are routinely used by anti-Islam sites as two more occasions where marrying off little girls is advocated when this has nothing to do with the meaning of the Hadith.

    This hadith is repeated .

Sahih Bukhari Volume 3, Book 34, Number 310:

        Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

I was with the Prophet in a Ghazwa (Military Expedition) and my camel was slow and exhausted. The Prophet came up to me and said, "O Jabir." I replied, "Yes?" He said, "What is the matter with you?" I replied, "My camel is slow and tired, so I am left behind." So, he got down and poked the camel with his stick and then ordered me to ride. I rode the camel and it became so fast that I had to hold it from going ahead of Allah's Apostle . He then asked me, have you got married?" I replied in the affirmative. He asked, "A virgin or a matron?" I replied, "I married a matron." The Prophet said, "Why have you not married a virgin, so that you may play with her and she may play with you?" Jabir replied, "I have sisters (young in age) so I liked to marry a matron who could collect them all and comb their hair and look after them."[/u] The Prophet said, "You will reach, so when you have arrived (at home), I advise you to associate with your wife (that you may have an intelligent son)." Then he asked me, "Would you like to sell your camel?" I replied in the affirmative and the Prophet purchased it for one Uqiya of gold. Allah's Apostle reached before me and I reached in the morning, and when I went to the mosque, I found him at the door of the mosque. He asked me, "Have you arrived just now?" I replied in the affirmative. He said, "Leave your camel and come into (the mosque) and pray two Rakat." I entered and offered the prayer. He told Bilal to weigh and give me one Uqiya of gold. So Bilal weighed for me fairly and I went away. The Prophet sent for me and I thought that he would return to me my camel which I hated more than anything else. But the Prophet said to me, "Take your camel as well as its price."

The underlined part shows that those girls were young and needed someone to take care of them. Its clear that they couldnt handle the responsibility of marriage. This shows that marrying mentally immature kids is ok in islam.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 64, Number 280:

        Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

My father died and left seven or nine girls and I married a matron. Allah's Apostle said to me, "O Jabir! Have you married?" I said, "Yes." He said, "A virgin or a matron?" I replied, "A matron." he said, "Why not a virgin, so that you might play with her and she with you, and you might amuse her and she amuse you." I said, " 'Abdullah (my father) died and left girls, and I dislike to marry a girl like them, so I married a lady (matron) so that she may look after them." On that he said, "May Allah bless you," or "That is good

Again the same thing here. These 2 hadiths indicate that marrying of children who arent mentally mature is allowed in islam. Btw you said "play" is not the correct translation. Then what is the correct translation? Also if you could go through the second hadith that I posted it uses the word "amuse". What is meant by amuse? Sex?

I think this is referring to fondling the virgins i.e sex . What kind of game/play/amuse is this in which one cannot play with a kid unless he marries her?? If its not sex and merely playing with kids as many people  tend to do with their neighbour's kid then why would it ask us  to marry ? One can play with kids even  without marriage. IF playing/amuse or whatever that arabic word means SEX then only it makes sense to say that you should marry them.So now whats your stance on this?

Islam is a funny religion which is misunderstood by its scholars and correctly understood by ordinary Muslims.
Faith is keeping your eyes shut when looking at the world, and/or keeping your eyes open only for the beauty of the world.

    Quote from: Debunker
    @ Yunus

65:4 said: those who did not menstruate (there' no "yet" in the verse.) I understand it as "those who did not menstruate (when divorced)" should wait 3 months before remarrying (after all, the verse was talking about divorcing *WOMEN*).

Anyway, here's an excellent article by Sam Shamoun.

    **answering-islam.org/Quran/Contra/marriage_age.html**
Using Tafsir + Hadith, Sam Shamoun did 2 things:
1- He proved that 4:6 contradicts 65:4 on the age of marriage.
    2- Muhammed violated 4:6

I agree with Sam Shmoun's analysis (which was based on Hadith & Tasfsir) 100%. The *great scholars* contradicted themselves when interpreting both 4:6 and 65:4. Our great scholars never cease to astonish!

And by the way, Sam Shamoun noted that Bukhari was the *first scholar* to have the opinion that 65:4 implied marriage before puberty was OK. So it's no wonder that the rest of all the scholars followed Bukhari's opinion on this verse (while they contradicted themselves on 4:6). [scholars are repackaging of each other].

As for Muslims who follow Tafsir 4:6 DOES define the age of marriage to be reaching puberty (or 15 years). And that's what Shamoun did! He laughed at the Tafsir for defining the age of marriage to be reaching puberty WHILE again according to Tafsir, 65:4 implies that pre-puscent girls can be married. So again, as per Tafsir there IS a contradiction and Shamoun pointed that out.

The language of the verse didn't change in anyway to indicate a shift from talking about women to talking about children. So by default the verse is still talking about divorcing women. A woman who was divorced while not having a period must wait 3 months. (because she might be pregnant). As you know, the only reason for a waiting period of 3 months is to avoid a pregnancy wrongly associated with the new husband.

In any case, the point is for women who did not menstruate (for whatever reason, other than old age/pregnancy) then they should wait 3 months to be sure they're not pregnant (some womendo miss their periods for as simple a reason as stress... so the best option in this case is to wait 3 months to make sure there's no pregnancy)

As for why every single scholar is of the same opinion as of Bukhari, it's because Bukhari said so... in case you haven't noticed, he's practically a second prophet for Muslims.

You assume here Bukhari is wrong. What is the reason for that ? Why cant he be trusted on this particular issue? You only showed that Tafsir scholars cannot be trusted on this issue but not Bukhari.Bukhari narrates atleast 2-3 hadiths on this plus the age of Aisha is being narrated in many hadiths.

Here is the hadith from Bukhari concerning this.

Sahih Bukari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 63).

Narrated Sahl bin Sad: While we were sitting in the company of the Prophet a woman came to him and presented herself (for marriage) to him. The Prophet looked at her, lowering his eyes and raising them, but did not give a reply. One of his companions said, "Marry her to me O Allah's Apostle!" The Prophet asked (him), "Have you got anything?" He said, "I have got nothing." The Prophet said, "Not even an iron ring?" He Sad, "Not even an iron ring, but I will tear my garment into two halves and give her one half and keep the other half." The Prophet; said, "No. Do you know some of the Quran (by heart)?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Go, I have agreed to marry her to you with what you know of the Qur'an (as her Mahr)." 'And for those who have no courses (i.e. they are still immature). (65.4) And the 'Iddat for the girl before puberty is three months (in the above Verse)

Huh?! This is the underlined part again:

    Quote
I have sisters (young in age) so I liked to marry a matron who could collect them all and comb their hair and look after them."

So he wanted to marry a woman who'd be a like mother-figure for his sisters. So what?

    And the other Hadith says:

    Quote
he said, "Why not a virgin, so that you might play with her and she with you, and you might amuse her and she amuse you." I said, " 'Abdullah (my father) died and left girls, and I dislike to marry a girl like them, so I married a lady (matron) so that she may look after them."

Meaning? He didn't want to marry a girl because she wouldn't be like a mother figure to them.

Anyway, you seem to be mistaken me for someone who is interested in defending Hadith, no, I was telling BD when he EMPHASIZED that one should only take orthodox view, that if he should insist on taking the orthodox view then we should be consistent in this regard. And now here's the Hadiths you listed in arabic:

    http://hadith.al-islam.com/Display/Display.asp?Doc=0&Rec=3301

It says the prophet said to him he should have married a "maiden" but he said he wanted a woman take care of his sisters. By the way, did you believe the "inconvenient" part of the Hadith where the camel magically became fast upon poking from the prophet's stick Cheesy.

    And the other Hadith:

    http://hadith.al-islam.com/Display/Display.asp?Doc=0&Rec=8007

    http://islamweb.net/newlibrary/display_book.php?idfrom=9800&idto=9801&bk_no=52&ID=2997

Again, the word is "maiden"... but Jabir said he preferred a woman to raise his sisters... (a maiden is too young to be a mother figure).

It's not my problem if you don't speak Arabic Sky, but the Orthodox scholars, people like BD insist we take their opinions, don't think these Hadiths had anything to say about marrying prebuscent girls.

In the context of that Hadith play bears a sexual meaning, like two young couple running around, etc.

By the words of Allah, "that also applies to those who have not yet menstruated" (65:4) and He made the 'idda of a girl before puberty three months.

4840. It is related from 'A'isha that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, married her when she was six years old and consummated it when she was nine, and she was his wife for nine years. (Aisha Bewley, The Sahih Collection of Al-Bukhari, Chapter 70. Book of Marriage; source)

The imam al-Bukhari used Aisha’s marriage as an illustration of a prepubescent girl who was married, thereby supporting the fact that Q. 65:4 does permit men to marry prepubescents. Moreover, the imam’s comments provide additional corroboration that Muhammad married Aisha before she reached maidenhood!

The fact is: the only Hadiths Bukhari believed to allow marriage to prebuscent girls is Aicha reporting her age... in the Chapter *XXXIX. A man giving his young children in marriage*, Bukhari only listed Aicha's age Hadith and his stupid opinion on 65:4... come to think of it, perhaps Bukhari was troubled by the fact that according to his Hadith collection, only the prophet married a prebuscent girl, so the idiot wanted to support this from the Quran.

Anyway, again, you seem to have mistaken me for someone who is interested in defending Hadith, no, I was telling BD when he EMPHASIZED the orthodox view, that if he should insist on taking the orthodox view then he should be consistent in this regard and he SHOULD know that anti-Islamic sites, while they boast all the time that they're following the Orthodox view, they are LIARS... they quote the orthodox view ONLY when it suits them....

Accepting the sahih hadith is not the orthodox view of Islam, you should know its the accepted/non-heretical one.

The orthodox view  would be, say, the literalist or wahhabi  (most intellectually honest) one.
