  • Did you know Saudi Arabia banned Evolution and Pokemon?
     OP - March 10, 2010, 05:12 AM

This may be kinda old news and I don't have the link with me right now but I shit you not. The theory of evolution AND pokemon cards are banned in Saudi Arabia, as well as Sudan. It makes me so mad how ignorant they can be. I hate saying this, but if Saudi Arabia collapses and hits rock bottom, they deserve every single bit of it. Then they will realize how stupid they really are. Again, I know I sound like a dick, but thats what happens when a country can get that fucking ignorant.

Pokemon was obviously invented by the devil to test our faith.  I kid you not there were radio discussions over here by fundamentalist Christians to whether Pokemon was secretly invented by scientists to "shore up" their theory of evolution or was invented by Satan to decieve true Christians.  God help us

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Those people should be sterilized, I'm not joking. Its the 21st century for fuck sakes Cheesy

My previous post may have sounded harsh, but if Saudi Arabia collapses and it goes bankrupt, they deserve every bit of it. Bunch of fucking morons and ignorant people live there, of course I am not saying everybody, but any country which bans pokemon cards and evolution and philosophy is a pathetic joke.

Ummm.. Saudi Arabia is a country where victims of rape are punished, women have no rights, apostasy and adultery are punishable by death, and there are public beheadings every friday.. I think them banning evolution or pokeman are the last thing we should be concerned about.

No, you are right. But banning evolution is just plain ignorant, its pretty much the bedrock of biology. Its a really important subject and shouldn't be banned, and as long as its banned they, the Saudi's will stay ignorant.

Who cares? Saudi Arabia doesn't even have any investment in genetics or biological sciences (aside from doctors) so why does it matter to them really? I mean they have 'scientists' that once stated that light isn't the fastest because Jibreel crossed a greater distance from Allah to Mo, so angels are faster!

Seriously, being offended by Saudi Arabia banning evolution is a bit like being offended by Hitler because he once mistreated and hit his favorite german shephard or that he bitchslapped Eva Braun.

As a Saudi myself, I'll tell you:
    1. Why are you surprised about evolution being banned in Saudi? It was never allowed in the first place, even way before the country was founded! XD
    2. Saudi kids used to watch Pokemon on a Syrian channel called Spacetoon and a Lebanese channel called ART (A-rabs know what I'm talking about) but it went off the air very fast in the mid-90s due to some 'idolatrous' phrases in the lyrics of the opening theme song, and the cards never got a chance, because they resembled 'gaaaambling'... I lived there and I heard this shit!
But, yeah. The whole Pokemon thing was already over in the 90s.

     Cheesy

Do Saudis generally not care about improving educational quality in their country? I mean, most people of any given country are pretty stupid, but there usually is a strong intellectual and elite class that maintain and push gov't to sustain educational quality. Doesn't saudi have some powerful liberals that are trying to modernize and improve things?

and yes, they know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about other religions....The level of oppression over there is just beyond imagination
And for those who travel abroad, they're reminded of some hadith or quranic verse, I forgot which one it is (maybe someone else knows), but it basically says to not hear what non-muslims have to say, lest you become seduced by their words and stuff... you get the idea... That's why no one there learns about the outside world.

LOL, I remember this shit when I was young. It happened in Yemen as well.
I was quite young and gullible, but managed to see the bullshit behind the Pokemon "Controversy", if you could call it that.  Cheesy

I mean the points Moe mentioned were the smartest thing they came up with. What was mainstream was some leaflets listing the names of some Pokemons claiming they mean blasphemous stuff like "There is no God" in the [Insert a language that doesn't exist] language or some shit like that. I was really pissed off that people actually bought into this crap. There was this time when I was ~13 (Few years after the controversy) I bought some Pokemon video games (They were awesome) and my uncle saw it, he said "Do you know Pokemon is haram" I wanted to punch him that time.

Well I heard in Saudi archaeology and philosophy is banned as well. By the way, did you ever see a sermon from those big sheikhs like Sheikh Sudais or Shuraim? I heard they give khutbahs in Mecca. Do you remember?

Honestly, I feel a little better now. Maybe I was kind of wrong. And they were on Al-Arabiya, a popular news channel in Dubai owned by Saudi Arabia's MBC. The guy in the third video tells it exactly like it is. I've always heard muslims say "we adopt the good things from the west and ignore the bad" well it depends on what those muslims consider 'good' and 'bad', which is why he said it will never work that way. That's an extremely important point he made out. The problem is how many people are going to see this? I know Middle Eastern channels are very biased, so I won't be surprised if they don't air it on a good time, or if they don't do repeats. The Middle East is going to have to change no matter what, it's just a matter of when. So far these interviews haven't made any significant changes to the countries. I'm really hoping to see more of this.

I love it when they say there is censor in the Middle-East because the Americans own the broadcasting stations like MBC. The best part is growing up hearing how there is no real freedom of speech in Europe. Can you really say what you want to say and followed by a eye-roll.
  • Re: Did you know Saudi Arabia banned Evolution and Pokemon?

    Quote
MBC-owned channel MBC 2 runs significantly censored films. Specifically, content involving drug abuse, sexual content, nudity and offensive language has been reworked or edited. (For instance, in Blow, the scene preceding the birth of Jung's daughter was cut to an incomprehensible 2 second series of key-frames.) This was done to protect the moral of MBC's audience, who are an Islamic majority. MBC's other free-to-air channels are also broadcasted with censored content, with each channel varying in censorship level. The MBC channel with the highest level of censorship is MBC 3.

Yeah the Zion Corp. has a small division that deals specifically with censoring of MBC and arabic news channels. They have antisemitism and anti-Western propaganda to fool you into that they are not in control. They also ban evolution, otherwise, you would think they are in control.

How silly are people, they think there is a little group meeting somewhere, hell-bent on censoring the free speech of Middle-East and not let the real truth of Iraq and Afghanistan out there. The truth that Americans are really in liaison with Al-Qaida and kinda supporting every side there so war keeps happening. Meanwhile American soldiers, and alliance soldiers, and american taxpayers money goes down to the drain. All to keep an already defunct country more defunct.
