    I liked it. There was also a great section on eastern religions (of which I'm not a fan), as well as the middle eastern ones.

    Yes have read it, would definitely recommend it. Also, his The Portable Atheist (with quotes and short bios of some well known atheist/agnostic writers through history).

    Anyways God is not great is fantastic. Well worth reading. Actually, I've only heard the audio book but will buy book as well.

    he recites poetry and quotes from famous people all the time. But I've always adored his quick-thinking and impenetrable remarks. And he is fueled with fiery rebellion! He is one of my top heroes!

    I bought the book just a few days ago, Hassan. I was already sunk deep into the book from the very first chapter. It may look like a small book at first, but Hitchens has a lot to say in it! Of course you should get one! I also bought two of Dawkins books: "The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence For Evolution" and "The God Delusion"

    Yeah, it's pretty good. Although, it focuses more on the negative consequences of religion than on refuting the existence of God.

    I thought his chapter on Islam was pretty weak, myself. The chapter on 'miracles' is probably my favourite.  It's very telling that theists and others who want people to believe in garbage so often resort to the miraculous as a means of persuasion.

    Overall the book was great. Listening to the audio book is even better. It's not really philosophical and isn't meant to be. The book in it's simplicity points out how ridiculous and man made religion and the figure of god is. I think his chapter on islam was okay. There were one or two errors but not enough to put the rest of the book down.

    Christopher Hitchens comes across as really arrogant and conceited; him and Dawkins both, in fact. It's a wonder why so many free thinking rationalists hang on every word they say, quote them in life as if they were saints and repeat, almost verbatim, every one of their arguments. I would go do far as to say that the 2 have effectively become professional atheists; they make money out of not believing.

    And considering that neither of them have any background in theology/philosophy (Hitchens is a journalist; Dawkins a scientist), it is a wonder why their pronouncements on religion are so popular in Atheist circles! There are better, more intelgient atheists out there who just do not get a look in because of these 2 brash evangelists.

    It just goes to show that most people, religious or not, need someone (or something) to follow.

    1. Hitchens and Dawkins pull no punches. Suck it up buttercup.

    2. Of course they are not an authority on theology. They never claimed to be. But are you an authority on animism or Hinduism? Do you agree with it? How can you disagree with something you don't know in depth? Are you in expert in Ouija boards? Or faith healing? And so on. Besides they make some very good arguments, not all the time of course. And Hitchens is a delight to listen to. The man is well-read, well-traveled and highly intelligent. Why not listen to him?


    Please stop with the emotional pleading, its rather undignified.

    I don't think there is any doubt that Mr Hitchens is a far greater role model than Mo will ever be. At least he hasn't killed anyone (except his liver)or wiped out any opposing tribes.

    lol ye plus Hitchens is a great speaker. I can understand why people would think he is arrogant but from my point of view he is more balanced when it comes to religion and he is much less arrogant than the religious clerics. The 'faithful' just can't take the heat when he scorches their beliefs and breaks them down for what they really are.

    actually the four horsemen are perfect gentlemen, read their books, they all have religious friends and i find them to be very humble men with sombre personalities, they dont suffer fools, thats why some religious people get agitated.
