Clegg ... made excellent suggestions imho about cutting Trident (the Cold War is long over FFS!) ...

I disagree. I think that Iran (more so than N. Korea) and future terrorism poses a threat.

On a related note, I don't think private establishments (in this case B&Bs) should be forced to serve gay customers or black customers or Muslims customers....etc

People who want to offer goods or services to the public should be bound by the same laws as any other business, whether they are a sole trader or a PLC, trading from city offices or their mother's basement. Discrimination is discrimination, these people are just trying to find wiggle room in the law for official acceptance of their bigotry.

Personally, I couldn't give two shits whether a few redneck B&B's closed their doors for business. Who knows, if there's really demand maybe they'll be replaced by businesses that are prepared to serve people as equals. Either way I don't see it as a massive blow to the economy.

Each of us a failed state in stark relief against the backdrop of the perfect worlds we seek.

Christian ones seem to work, but I largely disagree with this.

Even Muslims seem to work.  Chrisitans ones work better because they dont spend as much time talking about religion.  But they all indoctinate kids with hell, and rarely encourage classes on evolution. btw in my area, the leading school is secular primary school is a secular one.

I love the spelling mistake  Cheesy

But like I said, I don't like the idea of arresting and prosecuting a B&B proprietor because s/he refused to serve a particular customer. A better approach is to organize a campaign against such establishments. Name and shame and let the market sort it out. It would work wonders.

Same thing with smoking bans in pubs and restaurants. Just let people do what they want with their businesses. Are you gonna tell me that if we removed smoking bans for private establishments, there will be no smoking bars left?

    Edit: no no-smoking bars left?

Ok good! I actually don't have enough data to comment, only taking personal experiences to note. But I'm happy to bet £10 that the Christian ones work far better than the Islamic ones! I feel there is a need for a crack down on Islamic school from what I've read (though again, the numbers would justify this).

Edit: perhaps crack down is too strong of a phrase, I mean more "thorough review and reform".

Poll on who won the debate:

    43% Clegg

    26% Cameron

    20% Brown

    11% None

    Very interesting!

Just because they are better than Muslim schools, it does not mean we should have them imo.  Religion is something that should not be compulsary at child or even adult level.

I am beginning to like Clegg a lot more, but realistically, are we expecting Tories to win?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't a hung parliament just mean that all three parties will be squabbling and nothing will get done? Or am I missing the definition of a hung parliament?

I remember reading that Nick Clegg said that faith schools should teach that homosexuality is normal; and I really do like this.

    Quote
Mr Clegg said: “Crucially faith schools should have a requirement to have an anti-homophobic bullying policy at their school.”

I don't expect Lib Dems to win, but it makes you think if they have a very high chance perhaps in the next general elections.

I think the Tories will win (but with very little votes). I have a good feeling that the LibDems will start receiving a lot more attention now, they did really well last night according to the polls.

  • Re: The 2010 UK election - who will you vote for?

I reckon the Lib Dems stand a really good chance, but it's still a bit early to tell. I will probably be voting Lib Dems (still not 100% sure) but I'm not too keen on their lack of interest for expanding airports. I think that's the least of their worries. It also makes me think it's less about the environment and more to get support from home owners that don't want their house prices to decrease due to noise pollution?

Brown pissed me off at the debates, he sounded like a broken record.

The Islam issue has swung my political stance to the right of the political spectrum.  Having said that, I'm still unsure about who I'm voting for yet.

Why is opposing Islam as a religion and as a form of theo-identity politics considered to be of the Right?

Sure, elements of the Left have pandered to and succoured Islam as a religion and identity-poltics, but I do think that this is a cross political stance defined by a rejection of extremes, and a central scepticism towards Islam and Islamism. You can see traditional Right wingers like Douglas Murray united with Left wingers like Nick Cohen or the Harry's Place guys, as well as folks like The Spitoon, British Muslims who believe in secular democracy.

Scepticism towards Islam and Islamism only 'belongs' to the Right if people let the issue be owned by them.

Anyway... If there was a hung parliament, which of the two main parties would you folks like the Liberal Democrats to back? I'd prefer Labour; the Conservatives just creep me out. Too many homophobes, Christians, and closet racists. Besides, I don't agree with their policy of early spending cuts.

Mark my words, Muslims are hypocrites; screaming for sharia but happy to run to the Labour party for bigger government programmes - even if it means a party that supports civil unions for gay couples; so-called 'morality' hits the back burner when they can get more money in their pocket. As fucking hypocritical as Pakistanis decrying taking aid from the US and how Pakistan should stop - but ignoring all the creature comforts that are paid for courtesy of the US tax payer.

I'm torn about this. Labour has fucked up a lot, but I don't know if I trust the Conservatives for the reasons you stated, and more.

Lib Dems backing Labour makes more sense because their political ideologies match a lot more (but not completely, of course) than Lib Dems and Conservatives.

According to the Guardian, 30% of Lib Dem supporters would rather back Labour as opposed to a small 15% who would rather back the Cons.

I'd rather they back Labour myself but ONLY if Brown goes. He's a fucking retard.

I think that's harsh. There are many secular Muslims who sincerely argue that Islam does not stipulate any type of government but is only there for spiritual/personal guidance. Say what you will about their beliefs (ignorant/misguided/selective etc...) but they are quite sincere in those beliefs and calling them hypocrites is a bit harsh imho.
  • Re: The 2010 UK election - who will you vote for?

Yeah I agree Hassan. And calling the lads from The Spitoon, who are basically secular Muslims, who write every day against Islamism, Islamist ideology, often at a risk of exposure, and to great personal abuse, 'fucking hypocrites' is not just harsh, its downright wrong and crude. If there are Muslims who do believe in all that secular democracy stands for, treat their religion as a private faith, and especially if they actually advocate and actively defend secular democracy, then I think it is fairly outrageous to gratuitously abuse them.

Whatever I think about their beliefs I sincerely wish them good luck!
