Yeah I have to agree it's possible. I just don't think there's any choice, given everything that this site and these people stand for.

You have a point when it comes to people just being offensive for the sake of it. OTOH, if someone's watching their sick mother refuse to take so much as a glass of water during the day because its ramadan, and they get frustrated and post "Fuck Allah", I don't really blame them.

Its difficult to write a set of rules which get rid of the former, without unfairly penalizing the latter.

The reason why it offends people because its religion , I want religious people getting used to insults because sooner or later we won't have the freedom to :( . But I have friends that are Muslim and being an ex muslim i can empathize with them alot . But doesnt give them the excuse to be whiny little bitches its annoying .

It's a bit much to expect users on a forum made for ex muslims to censor themselves in case any muslims happen to come across this site.. I expect most people do enough of that in real life. Although I do dislike the smug condescending attitude I sometimes see when people describe muslims or believers of any religion. You don't gain 500 instant IQ points by apostatizing.

Care to give some examples?

And even if it were true (can't really say I've noticed it), it is not even one millionth of the smug condescending attitude that mainstream Islam holds for (a) non Muslims of any kind and (b) ex Muslims.

Hell, ex Muslims are lucky if they are only smugly condescended to, a special, more psychotic consideration is the norm for them!

Oh yeah and of course you can say something similar for religionists of other faiths too (although the apostate thing, not so much really)

Could be, but chances are if they came here in the first place, they've got some doubts already and those will resurface for them here or elsewhere. And the insults might shock them in to questioning where all of the anger is from anyway. I imagine it's a process for most people and not a one-shot chance at deprogramming, if that's what you're worried about.

This makes me CRAZY insane pissed off at a fucking god they do this in the name

As Cheetah has said, there are many here who may need to VENT, to keep their sanity,

I have my own contentions with having been a muslim, that anger the HELL out

for it, and calmed down considerably, now able to think more rationally having

I think that ethically/morally we don't have any reason to respect something that doesn't exist. However, we should think in terms of effectiveness towards interacting with Muslims. If a muslim comes here, is he more or less likely to listen to, and think about what we have to say if we insult Islam? When talking to Muslims, we should do whatever will be more effective, or handle it in a case by case manner

Of course, between ourselves/our own threads we have no reason to respect islam or any other religion. A part of this forum is to allow ex muslims to vent!

I understand that some new ex muslims still want to respect islamic beliefs/concepts just because they were brought up with this, I was the same way in the early days of my apostasy. However, it boils down to the fact that something that doesn't exist can't be insulted, and we shouldn't be afraid to call a brick a brick when it comes to quran and mohammed. Realizing this gradually made me indifferent to insults to Islam, I've stopped taking it personally.
