I'm assuming this season includes all the events from a storm of swords. I thought they may have put the red wedding with the other events in kings landing and the wall in the season finale but that may have been a bit too long for the 1 episode.

Ah yeah. Well, sorry to say but they announced pretty early on that they were doing Storm of Swords over two seasons. So really, there's not much left and they're leaving the best stuff for the next season.

If they kill off the dragon lady, that's me done. It's the only story thread I find compelling now that the main one has been abruptly ended for some random reason.

I think it's the writers' fault that it seems to people that the main story has been abruptly ended, you know. Robb and Catelyn's story was certainly prominent, but I wouldn't consider it the main one. Anyway, there's still a lot of stuff to see, so even if they kill off Daenerys, I'd stick around Wink

Naerys, isn't the next episode about joffrey's wedding and subsequent demise? I would think that would make an excellent season closer.

LOL what honor was there is Robb marrying some random chick when he had already pledged his word to marry another?? He just followed his cock, that's it.

I think by 'honourable' most people mean he was one of the good guys. He wasn't a psychopath or corrupted by power. He was doing the right thing. He was his father's son. He was driven by vengeance above all else, but I think there is honour in that too. Avenging the murder of his father, members of his family, his friends and people, the destruction of his home and title. It's a tragic course of action, but understandable. It's something you can get behind and root for. Fist pump the air when it works out for him. I like to see that rewarded in fiction. There is profound emotional payoff in vengeance. It's satisfying. Of course, in real life vengeance doesn't help, just fucks you up more. But in fiction, it's a classic mythical trope. An appealing one.

I understand George R. R. Martin's philosophy, though. I get it. He wants his fiction to be almost the antidote to the predictable 'hero is bound to win'. The hero is usually safe in fiction. Martin has removed that certainty and complacency. I just wonder if he hasn't gone slightly too far the other way. He seems to be making a point of killing off characters that are written to be surefire favourites.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.

Yeah, I guess the main story is the coming of the winter and the re-emergence of that evil race (the White Walkers?), and I presume there will be some kind of ultimate battle for the fate of the world. But that has kind of taken a backseat. The main focus seemed to be the war between the two big houses, the good guy vs. the evil guy. I'd have liked to have seen that resolved in some kind of final confrontation, rather than them just getting picked off by side events and the great rivalry just fizzling out.

The reason I say it was the only thing holding my interest aside from the dragon lady is that I wasn't so interested in the other story threads. I could take them or leave them. I usually wanted those scenes to hurry up so it would go back to the scenes with Stark vs. Lannisters or dragon queen kicking ass on the other side of the world.

And another thing. That red wedding scene was fucking horrible. Not just flinch and laugh about it with friends later, but a real punch in the gut that I don't want to talk about or see again. And it came out of nowhere. It was just... what the fuck is happening.

Quite a brave thing to film and show on TV. Far from pleasant viewing, though.

^ Absolutely. Very shocking, and intensely portrayed.

I too love Daenerys. I remember when I first started reading the books I wanted her to go on to reclaim her rightful throne! dance

Like I said before, the Red Wedding occurs about 100 or so pages into the book so it, while an utter surprise, never really felt like a ‘season–ending’ climax.

I like that part of the world. It reminds me of Frank Frazetta paintings. Makes me nostalgic for Conan and Clash of the Titans and all those old swashbuckling fantasy epics.

I seriously doubt they will do the wedding this season. In fact I'm sure they won't because they need to introduce the Dornish characters (most importantly the Red Viper) and they haven't even cast them yet, so I'm pretty sure they're leaving that for next season. I mean if they do it now, what else is left for next year? It would be boring as hell :D

I understand your point. The definition differs a bit in the context of the story, though. Like when you compare Robb to his father. Eddard would have done the "honourable" thing by sticking to the arranged marriage (which he did) at the detriment of the woman he loved (happened in the book, not sure if she'll get a mention in the series, and no, it's not Jon Snow's mother.) What annoys me, though, is that Robb in the book actually did the honourable thing. I'm going to spoil the books a little tiny bit here, but it's doesn't matter because the story has advanced: in the book, Robb hears about his brothers' supposed death (Bran and Rickon) and is so devastated about it that he seeks comfort with a noble girl and basically deflowers her. After that he's like "shit, I'm promised to another.... BUT I can't leave the girl like this, I'm honour-bound to marry her!" so he does. Not that he didn't love the girl, you know, but he did it for the sake of that land and those times' honour code. That's what they didn't show in the series. He's trying to be his father's son, not just following his heart and lust.

And technically his quest for vengeance, while awesome and badass, is rebellion against his rightful kind Tongue (they don't know about the twincest)

Yeah, the "War for the Dawn" as they call is the main scheme in the whole story. However, in my opinion, the storylines of Jon Snow and Stannis are equally important to Starks Vs. Lannisters, but they way they depicted them in the show just didn't make them terribly interesting.

They had it coming.  Strength and cunning, most of all cunning.  That is the Lannister's way.  Tywin you are a genius, it's a shame your children aren't.  Tyrells you are also great fuckers of the mind with a talent for patience.  But you, Littlefinger, will triumph (err can someone who's read the books tell me if he dies or not? I love spoilers) - I await your endgame.

Until the Starks get a new King (Bran and Rickon are still too young)  I am rooting for Stannis Baratheon.

Stannis might not be the most moral person but he has Sir Devos advising him. And other than Daenrys Targariyan there is noone else as moral/just as him.

And speaking of Daenrys Targaryan did anyone else think of Jesus with the scene when she was lifted up by the villagers. I mean seriously Deanrys seems to be like Jesus

Her beliefs seem to be pretty much in line with " The Meek will inherit the earth " line from the Bible.

He also betrayed her cause.  In fact had she not felt love for him, she would have killed him outright not just shot him a few times.

The dude misled her, also slept with her willingly as part of his betrayal, so seriously, not surprised she shot him a few times.  That double betrayal would sting.

Show Stannis is a moron. Book Stannis is possibly the most "moral" person there is out there. Don't see much "morality" about Daenerys. See her treatment of her "enemies" during parlays.

Yep. He just broke up with her, nothing more. He didn't lead her on, lie to her, put her life at great risk, and eventually left her there while she was FUCKING FIGHTING HER OWN PEOPLE FOR HIM. No reason to overreact, right?

If you're a Stark fan, I can't see how you would like Stannis. He basically killed Robb with the red woman's blood magic. And we know the magic is real because we saw Beric being brought back to life with it.

I think I'd hate Stannis even if I weren't a Stark fan. His sense of entitlement annoys me. As if half the kings that rule are ever the rightful kings. As if his brother, Robert,  was even the rightful heir to the throne  -_-

Robert was a legitimate king by right of conquest. In Westeros that's just as legit as blood right. Also he had Targaryen blood (his paternal grand-mother was a Targaryen princess) so there's that, too.

And since it's basically established that Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen are bastards and 100% Lannister, Stannis IS the rightful king of Westeros. He stated in the book that he doesn't WANT to be king, but since he is the rightful heir, it is his duty. He's that kind of person: boring stubborn and incredibly self-righteous Smiley

In his eyes, Robb could never have been an ally because he lay claim to half his kingdom. He was a rebel and deserved to die.

Hahahaha that's a great compliment to my nerdiness! I'll take it!

You make a good point. He is aware of the double standard about his brother's rebellion and Robb's. And apparently it tortures him, but his brother was his overlord and commanded him to hold Storm's End for him, and it was notorious that Aerys Targaryen was a nutjob, and everyone knew the horrors he had committed, so I guess he just went with what he thought was right. As for Robb, the way Stannis sees it, he didn't have any valid reason to rebel since there was a legitimate king he could have supported against the Lannisters, instead of just seceding the kingdom. In fact, Robb's own father would have wanted it to be that way. But I guess Eddard found himself missing a head before he could have that kind of conversation with his son.

Man, I just started watching this show.
It's so good. I've always loved fantasy, and this show is solid.

Funny enough, it's even kind of helping me with my wife and Islam.
The show has a lot of violence and mistreatment of women and slaves.
Like the scence with the Khal going on a rant about how he is going mount the world and rape their women and enslave their men and children...

We were talking at dinner and I was like... I don't know how people want to the follow Mohamed as in the hadith. How they lived in 7th century Arabia has much more in common with how they live in Game of Thrones. Especially the Khal people.

I could almost see the point I had been trying to make intellectually for years... kind of make sense to her.
Maybe it needs visuals like that.

    scamper_22,

You definitely have a point there.

Someone should make an epic movie about Mohammed, his life and his deeds and treatment of his (alleged) opponents, wives and slaves.

The XXX parody would be intellectually interesting, too.

Funny stuff aside, I still think you have a point - the modern world vs. 7th century Arab warlords. People have to be pretty dickish to think that stuff is perfectly alright projected into our current world.
