    They were trying to straw man the Shaik in the beginning by telling him he is imposing stuff, he clearly said he is not imposing anything, he is just suggesting that wearing a Burqa is the right way but it is up to u, till here the Shaik is winning.

    now I will watch the rest of the Debate, I am on minute 41, till now the Shaik is winning, they are desperately trying to straw man him.

    He also stated that certain rules apply only to Muslims, he never said that he would punish anyone by whipping, he just said that his job is simply to tell people what is the right way to follow Islam and he said if a woman goes and asks him if she should wear Burqa then he will tell her that she will but if she doesn't want to then it is up to her, he also stated that he doesn't agree with Saudi Arabia and Iran.

    Also the argument made by that lady who joined the table that who is he to talk about her rights was invalid, why shouldn't we talk about people's rights Huh? He is not imposing it.

    His claims are clear and he is saying that stoning and Burqa is for the people that accept that kind of punishment as normal and it applies to them, he even said that if he committed adultery he would have asked to get stoned, maybe he is lying but his argument is valid also he is making a parallel between the death punishment in the West for treason and apostasy and also a good parallel between imposing laws like don't park here and the Burqa even though he made it totally clear that he is not imposing anything on anyone, he is simply suggesting.

    Those arguments are 'parallel' if freedom of conscience was the same as treason (and its a false comparison in every dimension - one is ubiquitous the other isn't) and if the attire of a woman and a woman herself is the equivalent of parking a car in a street - ie: you accept the misogynistic dehumanisation of that premise to begin with.

    These are straw men and they come from the primitive caveman.

    Why are you saying that Huh? I think he was very honest and made very good points about what he was saying.

    I would agree that treason and freedom of consciousness is not the same and you can't draw a parallel but still if someone consciously accepted those kinds of rules and he knew that one day if he had to apostate he will have to face a death punishment then what is it all about, I think that person signed his own death warrant, just like in a normal society where you are given a death punishment for treason, no one asked u if u agree with that law or if u like it, they will just put u in front of the firing squad and execute you, it is the same with apostasy.

    He kept repeating that these laws don't apply to people who are not muslims only to people who want to accept this way of life and that is pretty valid, I mean if u want to get hanged or get ur hand cut off for stealing then who am I to tell u not to do so ??

     Only a totalitarian regime would execute someone for holding  a certain opinion.

    Any muslim who says infront of me that ex muslims should be executed would get punched in the face.

    Never heard of this guy nor have I watched the video but if he states that then he's distinguishing  between "political apostasy" (like the ridda wars) and "religious apostasy". If so, its quite a valid argument that mainstream Islamic jurists used centuries ago.

    Mohammad Hashim Kamali pointed out to the hadith, the Saying of the Prophet (saws) which “makes it clear that the apostate must also boycott the community (muifariq lil-jamaah) and challenge its legitimate leadership, in order to be subjected to death penalty”3: “The blood of a Muslim who professes  that there is no god but Allah and that I am His Messenger, is sacrosanct except in three cases: a married adulterer; a person who has killed another human being; and a person who has abandoned his religion, while splitting himself off from the community (muifariq lil-jamaah)”4.

    Imam Ibn Taymiyyah explaining the aforementioned hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) inferred that “the crime referred to in the hadith under discussion is that of high treason (hirabah) and not apostasy (riddah) as such”5.

    I can totally relate to that but that Shaik whatever his name was said that he didn't agree with totalitarian regimes such as the Saudi and Iranian one and he said that he wants to promulgate that kind of law such as Sheria amongst people who want to live in that kind of law and he clearly said that he would invoke stoning upon himself.

    That's how I always saw it when I was going through my idealistic Islamist phase. I still think there's some truth in it.     it wouldn't be a problem even if Muhammed executed someone for apostasy because he was a human being and human beings are fallible but what befuddles me is how God won't forgive someone for disbelieving.

    I am not sure I understand the Abu Bakr instance though.

    Anyways, the Salafi owned those guys, those guys didn't have any argument to be honest, the Salafi answered all their questions with such an imperturbability

There are whole departments in universities dedicated to teaching what Islam is and isn't and not all of them are Muslims.  Apply that to anything else.  American drone strikes in Yemen.  Are those bad?
