I don't view porn in moderation as bad. As for children watching it I agree it is not good when they can't then discuss it with an adult in a grown up way, no squeamishness and all. I say this as even the most 'out there' stuff I think could be discussed in a way to say, these people are actors they don't necessarily like this the same goes in the real world as well. You have to take your time to see what people want sexually in the real world, think of it like a film based on fact, for example Titanic actually happened but the story has been expanded upon in the film.

But then again I think it would be healthier to see people nude when warm enough than to hide the body out of squeamishness. People would have less problem about their bodies I think cause they could see the variation in the general populace. I also get mad at blokes chests being okay to see but women's chests being a no no.

Perhaps porn is something very different then nudity.

It depends for what reason and in what context somethings occur as to if they are porn or not

You mention bare chest. If the chest of a women is bare to feed a child such is simply the way it is.  If it is bare because she is striping. Well then a different thing. With a man the same kind of examples can be applied, well similar,  if a man is just working with his shirt off so what but if he is a stripper something different is happening. Also depends on what culture the event is taking place in. Some cultures topless doesn't matter.

Sexual aactivity is often the determining factor if it is porn or not

If at first you succeed...try something harder.

Porn is everything good and bad there is about humans. Its a reflection of our deepest, innocent impulses and can be a reflection of our darkest hearts too.

Porn is everything good and bad ..........................

Yap... it is all porn...   what is there in life without it??   there is no life ..

    Quote
hadith from  'Wedlock, HEAD LOCK., Marriage (Nikaah)' of Sahih Bukhari Book_62..

Narrated 'Ali: I said to Ibn 'Abbas, "During the battle of Khaibar the Prophet forbade (Nikah) Al-Mut'a and the eating of donkey's meat."

Narrated Abu Jamra: I heard Ibn Abbas (giving a verdict) when he was asked about the Mut'a with the women, and he permitted it (Nikah-al-Mut'a). On that a freed slave of his said to him, "That is only when it is very badly needed and women are scarce." On that, Ibn 'Abbas said, "Yes.

Narrated Thabit Al-Banani: I was with Anas while his daughter was present with him. Anas said, "A woman came to Allah's Apostle and presented herself to him, saying, 'O Allah's Apostle, have you any need for me (i.e. would you like to marry me)?' "Thereupon Anas's daughter said, "What a shameless lady she was ! Shame! Shame!" Anas said, "She was better than you; she had a liking for the Prophet so she presented herself for marriage to him."

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar : 'Umar bin Al-Khattab said, "When Hafsa bint 'Umar became a widow after the death of (her husband) Khunais bin Hudhafa As-Sahmi who had been one of the companions of the Prophet, and he died at Medina. I went to 'Uthman bin 'Affan and presented Hafsa (for marriage) to him. He said, "I will think it over.' I waited for a few days, then he met me and said, 'It seems that it is not possible for me to marry at present.' " 'Umar further said, "I met Abu Bakr As-Siddique and said to him, 'If you wish, I will marry my daughter Hafsa to you." Abu Bakr kept quiet and did not say anything to me in reply. I became more angry with him than with 'Uthman. I waited for a few days and then Allah's Apostle asked for her hand, and I gave her in marriage to him. Afterwards I met Abu Bakr who said, 'Perhaps you became angry with me when you presented Hafsa to me and I did not give you a reply?' I said, 'Yes.' Abu Bakr said, 'Nothing stopped me to respond to your offer except that I knew that Allah's Apostle had mentioned her, and I never wanted to let out the secret of Allah's Apostle. And if Allah's Apostle had refused her, I would have accepted her.' "

Narrated 'Aisha: Allah's Apostle said (to me), "You were shown to me in a dream. An angel brought you to me, wrapped in a piece of silken cloth, and said to me, 'This is your wife.' I removed the piece of cloth from your face, and there you were. I said to myself. 'If it is from Allah, then it will surely be.'

Narrated 'Aisha: that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death)

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "A matron should not be given in marriage except after consulting her; and a virgin should not be given in marriage except after her permission." The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle! How can we know her permission?" He said, "Her silence (indicates her permission)."

Narrated 'Aisha: I said, "O Allah's Apostle! A virgin feels shy." He said, "Her consent is (expressed by) her silence."

Yap.. It is all porno.. No life without it..

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything

If you would like to publicly display your sexual acts and you live where this is legal go for it however I have just as much right to think that such things should be private and intimate

What you call "squeamishness", I call "shame". That's just a cultural difference though, but for me, 'sharam o haya' (shame and modesty) have very positive connotations.

And I dunno, I guess people will always be uncomfortable with their bodies no matter what. grin12

The sexual impulse is noble and infuses our lives. Porn and erotica is a reflection of that impulse and desire. The darkness is there too. In the reaction to porn, the exploitation involved, and other aspects.

Porn is a reflection of our condition as sexual beings which defines us as humans.

Why not? Its a word I use because our sexual impulses can be too easily demonised. Sex can be ignoble too. But I just used the word on the basis of not making sex to be feared or considered dirty or polluting or intrinsically shameful.

But sex can be noble - tenderness, compassionate, loving, sharing intimacy - all of these things are aspects of our most noble potential as humans.

But even just sex in its purest physical desire can be noble too, without any immense emotional attachment. Part of what makes us what we are.

Seems a little over the top to me. Saying "the sexual impulse is noble" doesn't make much more sense to me than saying "the sexual impulse is evil". I don't really think it's either of those.

The sexual impulse is just a biological function, that we invest meaning in - we invest it with all of the complex, contradictory ideas, thoughts, motivations and feelings that we possess. Porn reflects that. Its a part of our human landscape. As dark and light as we are.

I did say that darkness is there too. And it does no harm to stress that sex can add something dignifying to our lives when it is stressed with so much shame and disgrace - from many directions.

"The sexual impulse can be both noble and dark". There ya go.

It just read funny. Not really worried about it.

Incidentally, although there may be good porn somewhere, I have to say that the stuff that seems to be all over the place really isn't that interesting IMO. Could be the McDonalds of porn I suppose, but they do seem to do a very good job of making sex seem boring, which is quite an accomplishment. Smiley

Yeah the ubiquity of it is what partly makes it boring.

Well not really. It's the actual content, at least from my perspective. I think part of the problem is that sex just isn't a particularly good spectator sport. Fun to play, but watching it rapidly gets passe.

The ease of access of it is partly what makes it boring though. In the past when it wasn't so easy to get hold of there was a frisson that made it exciting. Less so now. Repetitive, unimaginative.
