How about any evidence that is at all convincing?

It's far more likely that a desert dweller made up some stories to heighten his own self-importance, compared to any of the alternative explanations that involve supernatural intervention.

what do you make of the cases put forward by Imam Al Ghazali and Said Nursi in Risale i Nur?

its not going to prove anything of course, despite Ghazali being honoured with the title 'proof of islam'
of course that's why we call it 'faith'
but his works make for interesting reading, as do Nursi's...

This is the highest level i believe, rewarded to those who achieved spiritual excellence
divine secrets are revealed to them,

God doesn't speak though, nor does he really think in the sense that we do, so that might be difficult.

i'm sure god communicates in more advanced ways then what we're familiar with. but he could indulge us once we've made it all the way heaven. i'd love to have a  chat with God/ Muhammad and Jesus and Moses

From ‘Ubaadah ibn al-Saamit (radi Allahu anhu), from the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) who said: “Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah will love to meet him”

well that's a good sign for you i guess,

ihsan, the highest form of worship when according to some, one comes to see through the eyes of Allah,
Speak to a respected scholar of tasawwuf about it, or if you wish i can link you some nasheed-less lectures and books about it.

The mercy of Nabi saw is that he draws people away from the worship of the creation towards the worship of creator
humans are all slaves, you can be a slave to yourself, someone else, or the transcendent
that is when one achieves true liberation...

I know all that stuff ElRafa   and that is one reason I suggest to ALL FAITH HEADS OF ALL RELIGIONS.,  the least they can help this mad world is   "STOP CALLING this god thingy as "He"  the male species".  It has and had has terrible consequences in the minds of  little kids  that these faith heads brains wash day in and day out

my  knowledge of the Arabic language is zero... zippo... but I know why Quran uses that word.,   for that matter  i know  why many faith heads of  many so-called religions use that  word "He" for this god of human brain..

the aqeedah of the ahlul sunnah wal jamah holds that the creator is outside the realms of creation, he doesn't occupy space, since he invented the notion of space, he doesnt exist in time, since he invented the notions of time,

It is haram to attribute a form to Allah (swt)
It is not possible to grasp the entity of Allah (swt), because” there is none comparable unto Him.” (Surah al Ikhlas, 4) and “Vision comprehendeth Him not.” (Surah al An’am, 103) Mind can just comprehend those which are material; however, Allah (swt) is not material. All beings whether we can perceive with five sense organs or not, have been created by the Creator who is glorified. Creature is neither a part of nor like the Creator. (Shamil Islamic Encyclopedia)
“Substance is a composite that comes into existence through the combination of some matters and also needs a place. To be composed and to be in need of place are the signs of being created.” (Fiqh al Akbar, Al Sharh al Aliyy al Qari)

This is common to Judaism and Christianity as well.  Maybe it's the simple fact that they are all patriarchal in nature and 'he' is assumed.
If the books were really of divine origin, Yahweh/God/Allah, would have foreseen this problem of imputing gender to him....... oh, I don't know, maybe telling the prophets to refer to him in one sentence as he, another as she, so that both genders are equal..... or some made up word, which clearly meant 'no gender ' at all!

(While typing this, I see that yeez posted in similar vein, but I am posting unchanged.)

Eh, tafseers tend to be pretty piss poor as proofs of anything, to be honest. At most they can reconfirm the faith of someone who is looking to find their "answers" in the Quran.

The Quran doesn't have "answers". It's just one book collected at one time in human history.

Do you know how many religious people, especially Muslims have told me to "just read this book" etc? Although I have boundless patience for exploring something new if I deem it worthwhile, I'm sorry that I've found such exercises in the past to be rather useless.

What's the real takeaway from these works? Why would this particular exegesis, written in the particular time and context that it was (early 20th century Turkey) provide such an insight into a way of life that had been studied and dissected for so many hundreds of years prior?

this is nothing? why do you assume this all to be literal?
Some muslims do, particularly atharis,  However the vast majority of scholars do not
many also hold anthropomorphism to be kufr or even shirk, this is aqeedah 101,
    yani, i don't understand,

all we know about Allah realistically are his names and attributes,

I know. Trust me, I spent years studying the subject. I don't believe the anthropomorphism in the Qur'an needs to be taken literally. Nor do I think any parts of the book should be taken literally.

i thought you were a skeptic, the whole.. i don't know it but i know its not worth my time attitude is problematic for someone who id imagine claims an insight into the world which many others dont have
(perhaps im mistaking you for another poster, forgive me if thats the case)

nursi was the mujaddid of the last century, one of the great islamic minds in history, read about his intellect and memory, such things you'll be pleased to know can be verified,
also he deals with science, western philosophy and materialism in great detail in his works, he devoured libraries and possessed remarkable and unique knowledge
