Are you all the ones who were trying to appeal to my African-American-ness in order to draw me out of my faith?

For the record, I didn't. I don't normally bother trying to reason with religious fundamentalist nutjobs. But not everyone here is as cynical and apathetic as I am.

    fuck you

Meh. What's the point. This guy comes in here thumping his chest...

"I'm looking forward to some fun discussions" is thumping my chest?

    ...declaring us all hellbound...

"What do you think of exMuslims, MRasheed?"

    ...defending slavery...

    "Slavery sucks."

    ...considering menstruating women unclean...

You can keep on drinking it if that's what you like.  To each his own.  But I'll pass.  ew.

...defending a god that tortures worse than anything done in guantanamo bay...

Anyone who ends up in hell did it to themselves.  God doesn't torture anyone.

...then promptly ignores any actual inquiries that would challenge his assumptions...

"Why won't you play the rules that we set instead of believing in Islam?!  You're INSANE!!  WAAAAHHHH!!!"

...and acts like a downright know-it-all.

I happen to know the Qur'an is true.  Don't you claim to "know it all" with your atheistic humanist argument?  Don't you "know" that the afterlife isn't real and there's no point to even pretending to be Muslim just in case?

This thread stopped being worthy of being taken seriously about 40 pages ago.

    lol

I'm sorry but it doesn't make sense to play this argument using non-faithbased rules when we are discussing a faith-based subject.

Use a different argument otherwise you come across like a bunch of idiot sissies.  You can't use "scientific proof" for something that has no fundamental way of being measured by math/science.

    Use a different approach.

If we can't use logic science or anything else what can we use to tell what faith is correct?

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Try again, genius boy. Your subjective view does not equal an objective observation or analysis of the universe. You come in here and you throw around phrases like "allah is lord" blah blah blah, why should we believe that? Just cause you say so? So what? We are EX MUSLIMS, get it. We've been in the vicinity of belief that you're in. We used reason and compassion to pull ourselves out of the quicksand of the futile and supremacist dogma that you seem to revel being stuck in. You think life is a big ol' game. Pathetic. You have lost all connection to your humanity, you think like most religionists, that life is a test to see who can be most pious. We were there, seriously, we all were. It's pointless... there's too much evidence to point to the fact that Islam, along with Christianity and other religions, were politically based systems developed BY MEN to control masses of people under the elites' rules. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean there's nothing beyond what science or math can gauge right now, but there's no connection between the possibility of discovering more about the universe and the ancient, horrific text of the Quran (or the Bible) having been devised by the "creator" of said universe. That's a huge leap that YOU make and you want us all to follow along. We've been there and we can not and will not go there as it would be going backwards for us. Of course none of what I said will actually get through to you. So I'm not typing this for you but for others who may come across this thread months, years from now, and bother going through the muck it has been with your constant dodging of any real examination of your own beliefs.

I'll tell you again, we're not all atheists here, no more so than all Muslims are salafi's.  Allat is in fact a pantheist, I am an agnostic.  However we are united in the fact that Islam is man-made.  I know that means we are all athiests to you, but the reality is somewhat different.

Which religion is the fastest growing again?

The one that carries a death penalty offense for leaving it, I believe. Although, with things like this, it's difficult to know the truth of the matter. You will also hear it said that those who do not identify with any religion are the fastest growing in number.

In my experience, intuitions are only unreliable when we doubt/second guess them.  I disagreed with your post and left it where it lay.

I'm sure you can find plenty of people who never doubt their religious intuitions, just like you. People who belong to all manner of different, mutually exclusive religions, and yet not all their intuitions can be right, can they? Their intuitions, while they are not doubted or second-guessed, cannot all be correct or reliable.

And fair enough. It was a long post and it's hard to have a conversation with ten people at once.

Correction:  I criticize the idea that they are all we have to interact with reality with.  You deify them.

Nope. I don't say that they're all we have to interact with reality. There obviously are other aspects to the human mind. I simply claim that they are the most reliable means of knowing what is true. I think you would even agree with this, as, for example, you would never accept that my mere 'intuition' that the Quran is not God's word gives you good reason to believe likewise.

I'd have to show you convincing and concrete evidence for my belief before you would accept it. Hence the necessity of reason and the inadequacy of intuition.

Nonsense, Zebedee.  It was the use of the five senses alone that made people think that the earth was flat.  "It looks flat from here so it must be flat."  It was intuition in the curious-minded that led to the discovery of something closer to the truth.

Nope. It was their intuition acting in accordance with their five senses by which they perceived the earth's surface.

It's even the same now. We still perceive the earth as though it were a flat surface, that is the intuitive belief, hence why we held it for so long. It is only our better understanding, reached through the application of reason, that we know better than to trust our immediate perceptions with regards to the shape of the earth.

A lot of the discoveries made by science have, in fact, been contrary to human intuition. Intuition can be part of discerning the truth, but ultimately, the most reliable means of knowing something is through reason. Look up Eratosthenes. The things he discovered could only possibly have been discovered by way of science and reason, as such things are not within the realm of human intuition.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eratosthenes

He was the first person to calculate the circumference of the earth by using a measuring system using stades, or the length of stadiums during that time period (with remarkable accuracy). He was the first to calculate the tilt of the Earth's axis (also with remarkable accuracy). He may also have accurately calculated the distance from the earth to the sun...

"It is no virtue if ye enter your houses from the back: It is virtue if ye fear Allah. Enter houses through the proper doors: And fear Allah. That ye may prosper. "

This is no doubt another superstitious pagan ritual of some type.  It seems like they were only going into the backs of their houses as if they were getting some kind of special blessing for it, and Allah was assuring them that this was not the case and to go in the house from the front like they had some sense.

Praying for what?  All the answers you needed were right there in the Qur'an.  What does God say about revelation/prophets after Muhammad?  You didn't NEED a special prayer to be answered about it.  That's not what prayer is for.  Prayer is to keep the remembrance of your Lord at the forefront of your mind to keep you focused on the Path.  Everything you NEED to know about the faith and the Truth of Allah is already hear on earth.

Mrasheed I would like you to take a long hard look at yourself. You cannot even read the quran. The "word of allah" is in arabic. That is an english "intrepretation" of the quran and you can't even refer to it as the "quran".

Ask the scholars if you don't believe me.

Now you said you have been Muslim since you were 19 and you were born in 1970. So you have been a Muslim for 21 years and you are still unable to read your own divine scripture.

That's just what I was saying about your retarded "PROVE IT!" stance.

Its not really that strange an argument.  Its an essential tool that we rely on to determine fact from fiction, from law to pharmaceuticals to human progress to science

When you consider that anything that your religion bears all the classic hallmarks of a manmade religion, and none of the hallmarks of something that could be considered divine.

Coincidence, considering that there are thousands of religions before it (and after it) that did the same, had people fooled, and were just as false?
