How far would you like it to be away from the WTC?

It's not a question of what I like, but they could have had the decency to build it some distance away and not come up with the bullshit argument of building it to remember the victims as well.  You have not answered my question as regarding the traitor issue..

Yeah so?  Are they more special than the Christian majority who died? By your reasoning they should be remembered by building a church as they barely make up 1% of those killed.   The fact that Muslims died is an even better reason why they shouldn't be remembered by a building a mosque considering that their killers were screaming Allahu akbar before they crashed the plane into the sky scrapers.  How about a secular memorial instead?  Would be a nice idea, they would all be remembered together as unfortunate victims of religious extremism and not as Christians or Muslims.

The existence of "universal rights" or "natural rights" is arguable.
You are taking it for granted as an axiom.

I can say I don't care one way or the other about this. However, I suggest the absolute best case scenereo is for the US governemnt to fund the building of the mosque themselves, and hire their own ultra-liberal Imam to preach a very moderate version of Islam.

"The site will contain tremendous amounts of resources that otherwise would not exist in Lower Manhattan; a 500-seat auditorium, swimming pool, art exhibition spaces, bookstores, restaurants - all these services would form a cultural nexus for a region of New York City that, as it continues to grow, requires the sort of hub that Cordoba House will provide."

If that is true. I think it should go ahead 100%  Smiley

They were Islamists.  The organisation that sent them to train and carry out their mission had (and still has) a religious agenda.

Creative idea, but quite unworkable as it would patently violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the US Constitution.

Not sure if Americans have that right, but the Iraqis certainly do.

So what would you say is the current situation for Iraq's indigenous populatation of Christians at the moment Q-man? Good? Bad?

As I have pointed out elsewhere, there are already over a hundred mosques in New York city for Muslims to grovel to their cube in the desert. Why is this one necessary?

US Christian and Jewish groups should apply to the Saudi government to build similarly imposing synagogues and churches in Mecca and, when this is refused, present New York Muslim proponents of the "ground zero" mosque and Cordoba Initiative people with a petition requesting the Saudi government reconsider their decision. What do you think of that idea Q-man?

Bad specially during 2006 and 2007. Probably more so than the situation of Iraqi Muslims. Almost 40 churches were attacked/vandalized since 2003. And almost a quarter of Iraqi Christians have fled since 2003 while only 10% of Muslims fled.

The situation has been improving, although in my opinion not enough. Christians now have 5 seats in the Iraqi Parliament as opposed to 2 in the previous government. [see: http://www.faithfulnews.com/contents/view_content/58420]
And they have 6 reserved seats in the Kurdistan Regional Parliament. [see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraqi_Kurdistan_legislative_election,_2009#Results].

Many Imams and sheikhs issued fatwas prohibiting the attacks on Christians. And the government is taking steps to protect Christians and churches. [see: http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/12/21/iraq.christmas/index.html#cnnSTCVideo].

because your arguments are the same narrow minded arguments all over the facebook groups. I suggest you take at the look at the wall posts. You will see that your arguments and their arguments mirror each other. The only difference it would be you are not blatantly insulting Muslims with derogatory insults because I guess of forum restrictions which they have none.

I don't why I even bothered writing it and providing links. I should never make this mistake again and assume you're looking for a an informed discussion.

Mecca? That's like building a Mosque or a Synagogue in Vatican city! You could argue they should allow churches in Saudi but not in Mecca or Medina.

Using Vatican City is a stupid comparison.
It lacks the physical space to build anything.

You should say "that's like building a Mosque or a Synagogue in Rome".
Except you cannot say that since it would prove your point wrong :S

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.

    Interesting choice of words.
Are you saying you are NOT Christian?
Or that you do not "regard yourself" as Christian but do not exclude the possibility that maybe you are indeed Christian?

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.
