    The fact this is even an issue in Britain in 2013 is sickening. We need to say that while we will accommodate you to a point, there are certain things about living here that are not negotiable. I still want to puke at the fact people signed it, even giving lip se4rvice to it. "Well I don't agree with it but it's your culture so okay I'll sign". The fuck is wrong with you people?!

    Nineteen people signed this petition, (one refused).  Out of the population of London, do you think 19 people is a representative sample? 

    (And I bet most of them didn't even listen to her, and merely signed to get rid of the woman with the clipboard yammering on about her culture so they could get on with their day).

    Its not a representative sample, no matter what time frame is involved in the exercise.  I support this woman's campaign, I even agree with the point she's using these 19 people to make - that "respect for other cultures" should never be used to defend the indefensible - but the panic response from some is a bit out of proportion to what actually happened.

    Imagine if I started a thread called "British Muslims Want Death to the West", and then when you clicked into the thread it turned out to be 19 muslims in Northampton who wanted death to the west.  You'd all think I'd joined the BNP.  Drawing any conclusions about the general population of the UK on the grounds of these 19 people is every bit as illogical.

    It's not a good statistical sample in terms of the entire UK population. However, given that she got 19 to sign in a total of 30 minutes on the street, with only one refusal, that's still a 95% hit rate. That does say something. Exactly what it says is less clear, which is why I suggested rewording the petition and asking the same people again. Obviously you'd then show them the comparison and query them about it.
