    I used to think of fish as meat but got rebuked for it a long time ago. I still think of chicken as meat even though some people don't view it as meat, but poultry. For them meat is red meat.

    Biologically fish is a meat, in culinary terms its a fish.  However the term is used interchangeably, thus the confusion

    50% part of it, the other part is their was nothing humane to connect to, I only connect with humane people in real life too.  Their was no father figure to relate to, and allah, the role of god is that of a parent, only nothing I ever read gave me that warm feel you need to feel to identify a parental figure. 

    Even my father is more humane than allah.

    So no father figure to connect, no "realness" behind it, no answering of prayers, and now I understand that it was because he is not real, I could not connect with allah the character because he was a badly put together one, with nothing to relate to.

    Unlike mohammed, who was modelled as the ultimate father figure, ultimate lover figure in a spouse, ultimate son for any parent, an ideal a person can connect to, the human touch.

    Okay well I could never have guessed anything more than that by "connecting to" you meant an emotional connection. I'm not saying that you SHOULD HAVE connected to Allah, though PeruvianSkies immediately thought that that is what I was saying. All I was saying is that you could not connect with Allah for other reasons like you have just stated, such as, Islam didn't paint a very full picture of Allah and so there wasn't any substance behind this character to relate to. The fact he doesn't exist, however, isn't the reason you didn't connect, though it is understandably a reason why your prayers weren't answered.

    That's all and believe me I am as appalled at how much time I have wasted on this one issue just as much as you are.

    As an Ex Hindu instead of Muslim:

    1) Sex before marriage and taboo sex

    (a) Wanted it since I were 12
    (b) Anyone can have sex so long as it is consensual.

    2) Homosexuality

    (a) Realised I were gay at age 4. yes, 4. 3+1, 5-1, or 2+2.
    (b) No one has managed to cure me yet so I still like my butt being penetrated.

    3) Pork Beef

    (a) Thou Shalt Not Eat beef.
    (b) Ewwww, beef is still yucky sounding to me.

    4) Alcohol

    (a) Father was a drunkard who said I couldnt ever drink any myself.
    (b) Became a pisshead for a few years at university, later realising I had a balance disorder so no more drinking was allowed.

    5) Modest dress code

    (a) I liked hot men in underpants from age 4.
    (b) Now I like hot men with no underpants.

    6) Suicide bombing

    (a) Didnt know what it was
    (b) If your going to kill yourself, please do it without harming anyone else.

    7) Jihad

    (a) Didnt know what it was.
    (b) I want a Jihad against all religious people, if that is possible.

    (a) Prophet of God.

When I die, my funeral will have to continuosly play 'Ding Dong The Witch is Dead' at as LOUD a volume as possible, so loud that no one can hear anyone speak or say a word throughout the ceremony and that as many people outside can hear it as possible. I want people to be glad, happy, and celebrating that I have died.


    We keep hearing about how Jack Straw or the French government have mentioned the veil and our doing so puts us in the same boat as them. How so? I want a ban on the burka, neqab and child veiling.

    Hmm..Interesting survey. Let me warn you at the outset, I'm a relatively recent atheist and might class myself as a "cultural indo/pak muslim" so some of my answer might show some of the baggage I need to shake off!   

    * 1) Sex before marriage and taboo sex

          (a) Absolutely haram but often thought about it as a young red blooded male. Getting married at 19 soon cured that ;-)
          (b) Have resigned to the fact that my missus won't do anal but I can still dream about it. Don't like promiscuity personally and wouldn't recommend it to my kids. Although if they are in a loving one on one relationship without marriage and are committed then no worries. Although my missus is still a muslim so she doesn't share my views.

          2) Homosexuality

          (a) Thought it was haram and thought that it was something that could be cured.
          (b) If that's how you are, then that's how you are. What two consenting adults get upto in the privacy of their homes is no concern of mine!

          3) Pork

          (a) Haram! Haram! Haram! because Allah said so! Pig is a filthy animal.
          (b) Don't feel as though I'm missing anything and don't feel as though I need to try it (purely psychological I suppose) Although I don't go out looking for halal meat for myself but for my family it's a must!

          4) Alcohol

          (a) Haram! Although I slipped a few times and never liked the taste! Made Istighfar and never touched it again.
          (b) If you want to do it, go ahead but I don't really see the appeal. I might have the odd Vodka and Orange.

          5) Modest dress code

          (a) Never really had such a bearing on me!
          (b) Still doesn't have a bearing on me!

          6) Suicide bombing

          (a) IMO thought it was haram and the "Middle of the road" position I followed endorsed that.
          (b) Some of the Salafi's or Wahabi's can bring you textual evidence to support their position which doesn't surprise me and is because it is textual it's probably true.

          7) Jihad

          (a) Always thought that jihad was defensive and that it began with the nafs!
          (b) Can be waged at anytime with textual justification and is a threat to humanity especially if nuclear weapons fell into the mujahids hands!

          8 ) Other religions

          (a) Thought that Islam superceded all religions. Those religions were revealed at one time but are now like vehicles that just won't get you to the destination of Jannah!
          (b) All religions have had their glory days including Islam. They are man made and belong to the infancy of our species.

          9) Mohammed

          (a) The perfect embodiment of man and masculinity. The best example for mankind that ever set foot on this planet.
          (b) Has managed to fool many many generations of otherwise decent people into emulating him. A man that belongs in 7th century Arabia and certainly not an example for anyone!

          10) Allah

          (a) The creator and sustainer of the universe. To be feared and loved.
          (b) Atheist towards all gods from all religions past, present and future.

          11) Circumcision/FGM

          (a) A sunnah and recommended for all muslim males. Don't really know any different. FGM absolutely inhumane no matter what!
          (b) Don't think there is anything wrong with male circumcission but should be the choice of the individual once they attain the age of reason. Don't know any different. FGM absolutely inhumane no matter what!

          12) Young marriage

          (a) Was always uncomfortable with Muhammed marrying a 6 year old but thought there was some wisdom in it.
          (b) Hate it with a passion no matter what the cultural relatavists say. It's wrong fullstop.

          13) How you wish to be buried

          (a) As a believing muslim
          (b) As a "cultural muslim" for the benefit of my family. They do have to live on after me and face the world if they cremate me!

    (b)The backbone of orthodox Islam.

    8 ) Other religions

    (a)I wish I was a Christian, why couldn't I have been born one and never heard of Islam (so I don't end up in hell), that way I could do whatever I want (as in-Islamic sins not legal or moral ones) and just pray to Jesus for forgiveness at the end of the day.
    (b)All religions are bullshit and stupid, all have different flaws to the others.

    9) Mohammed

    (a) Shady character, but I suppose it was a different time etc etc
    (b) Very shady character, how he could be a sinless man of god is beyond comprehension, unless that god is evil.

    10) Allah

    (a) I must do what he says so I can go to heaven.
    (b) Lol.

    11) Circumcision/FGM

    (a) Can't have an opinion on it because it's part of Islam/not part of Islam
    (b) Hell no to both, in this day and age we don't need it (at least in countries with safe water)

    12) Young marriage

    (a) If this means young bride, no way. Aisha was 18!!!!!!!!!! If this means children of an equal age getting married, not a great idea.
    (b) Aisha wasn't eighteen she was six, young marriage is horrible and inhumane, whether it's an older man or two young children.

    13) How you wish to be buried

    (a) (sigh of defeat) the muslim way...
