    Yes, absolutely!

    I only stopped fasting Ramadan before last. For almost 50 years I obediently fasted - and even fasted Sha'ban some years - + extra fasts (on a monday etc...).

    When Allah throws me in Hell for my Kufr - I hope he takes all those years of fasting into account as mitigating evidence and reduces the temperature a touch.

    Yeah I agree, in fact some mistake this tolerance as tolerance for homosexuality. When in fact it is viewed sympathetically as a "moral weakness" and a sin-with a "love the sinner-hate the sin" approach. This indeed in itself is homophobia, it's like suggesting that anyone who ever has sex is promiscius.


    And by the way Islame, I meant most people see homosexuality in a bias way-even if it's a slight bias-from associating homosexuals with camp behaivour to suggesting that homosexuality is done for fun.

    I'm starting to dread it,  Cry  Just heard mum talking to younger brother saying how fasting is comming soon and they should start praying, reading the quran etc

    It's so depressing because my parents also expect me to go out less (it's not like I go out much anyway) I suppose I can use the 'going to the library' excuse and actually go to the library would be good for studying and I can sneak food.

    Puts me in such a bad mood, which is no good for concentrating on work or being social.

    I am wondering if I should try and get away with not waking up for (sheri?) before dawn to eat.

    As a muslim I used to hate opening rosa with dates and a bowl of fruit, you could smell the rest of the food and instead of eating it you had to wait further and do your prayer.

    Althought it got better as a closet ex-muslim.  I used to open it with a spliff instead

    Dates taste delicious when you open your roza.  I can go through a dozen if I wanted.  I never eat them outside of Ramadan though.

    One positive aspect of Ramadan is that I end up eating a lot of fruit.  But this is one positive amongst a lot of negatives.

    ok this was a phase in my life when I was drifting away from Islam but still a Muslim. I went to stay with my then Irish girlfriend at her dorms. It was great having breakfast with 8 pretty girls all interested in the new arrival. I had been out drinking a few days before and then I suddenly got a call from mum reminding me it was Ramadhan tomorrow. I couldn't care less but promised her that I would keep the first one, which I did.

    My girlfriend and I both got up together for sehri after a night of haram passion. She loved learning about my culture. So I fasted the next day and told her that I couldn't touch her. We were both young and had only been together a few weeks so found it difficult to resist each other physically. I told her that she could only touch me after the fast opens. So she bought me some dates and gave me one minutes before the fast was due to open. The moment I put it in my mouth I suddenly noticed that something else was going into her mouth.

    Technically she was obeying the rules. I didn't tell her that Islam forbids premarital sex with catholic Irish girls.

    Sorry a bit off topic: talking to a cousin now she's 15/16 is it wrong for me to discuss the 'badness' of islam with her now? is she too young for this? shall i let her find her own path?

    Thanks, you're right, I think I will do that. Islame, yeah it is, i feel like telling someone who's a relative. I've told a muslim childhood friend, she was shocked, ended up feeling that she was just faking a smile through the rest of the day. I think i've lost contact with her now.

    You remind me of myself sometimes - my brothers & sisters are getting pissed off with me because I am always emailing them the snippets I get of COEM, particularly the i-am-pissing-myself-laughing-that-anyone-takes-this-religion-seriously hadith.

    They say I have turned into a fundo atheist (and I think they are right  Smiley)

    It has worked though, my brothers are probably agnostics now, and my sister is a deist.

    I haven't done the email thin. They're not bothered enough about religion to really care so I don't bother them much with this stuff, I usually just make off-hand comments when religion becomes the point of discussion.

    I find the women in my family are much harder to convince, they seem to have a stronger emotional attachment to Islam

    No. Dad is the one who usually brings it up, but it doesn't occur often. I should probably learn to challenge my dad more but I feel sorry for the poor sod most of the time and don't feel like arguing. He's too busy thinking Islam is the most wonderful and amazing thing ever. I might just debunk Bucaille's book for him some day and possibly give him my hadith list. That might open his eyes a little (or close them more).

    Good going mate. My sister doesn't want to know. It' been the opposite for her. Since she got married she's been more focused on religion and really doesn't want to know anything else. She says that she can't understand why i've revolted after practising for o long.

    Firstly, wrong, but secondly, you don't need to leave Islam for purely rational reasons, you can leave for emotional ones too.

    I find it easier to convince women than men, because I don't go down the rational route anyway, I appeal to their emotions since islam squashes them in ways I know I can use to get them to see what they need to see.

    I find men harder to convince because they get far more out of Islam, than a woman does.  Infact why should a man leave Islam at all since he gets 4 wives, total obediance, doesn't need to cover up like a woman, has free choices to a certain extent?  how many "cavemen" would find that appealing?

    Hmm, maybe because you are a man you find convincing men easier, as I do with women, interesting.  Huh?
