With 250 seats declared so far, the Tories have gained 25 seats. It looks like they're heading for a majority.

    Nope - hung parliament.
  • Re: The 2010 UK election - who will you vote for?

There's still 57 seats to declare and conservatives are 41 off a majority. It could still happen!
  • Re: The 2010 UK election - who will you vote for?

They wont get a majority - it will be a hung parliament.
  • Re: The 2010 UK election - who will you vote for?

Hung parliament it is. There are 35 seats left to declare and Conservatives need 36 for a majority.

Is anyone else constantly checking whether Lib Dem + Labour seats surpass the Conservatives? They do at the moment, and it seems they will when it's over, so there's a still a realistic hope for a Lib-Lab coalition.
  • Re: The 2010 UK election - who will you vote for?

Jacqui Smith and Shahid Malik NOT elected.

    HAHA!

I'm not in the UK, so I don't understand how politics work over there. But in the UK, what is the main difference between the labour party and tories?

Labour is traditionally a trade unionist party but not so much so when the term "New Labour" caught on from 1997 onwards. They're far from being socialists, but they believe in higher public spending than the Conservatives who traditionally believe in smaller government, fewer taxes, cuts to public spending. Conservatives are slightly more euro-sceptic too.

The unlived life is not worth examining.

At the beginning of the results there was a realistic possibility that Conservatives might be able to form a coalition with DUP! Someone from the DUP clearly couldn't stop smirking when she said something like: "We won't be going to Cameron, Cameron will be going to us."  dance

Yup! Together they make up 299 v. conservatives on 291. 33 seats left!

Yeah I totally agree. If there IS support for the BNP, enough for them to get a seat in parliament then I say, please give them it! Why pretend the support isn't there? That's not going to make the problem go away. And let's be honest the British people didn't realize BNP was such a threat until they got 2 seat in European Parliament. Clearly, in the EU election, PR enhanced the proper function of a democracy - to discuss.

The only problem with PR for me is whether FPTP is really so bad that it should be changed to PR. Incorporating PR in the UK will be very hard I'd imagine because of how big you would have to make the constituencies.

It sucks that the LibDems have lost seats. That's a major blow.

Yup down by 6 but they've had an increased % of the populus voting for them. Labour have lost 86, to date!

Cleggy is saying he stands by his view that the party with the most seats should form govnt so seems like lib-lab coalition is out already.

Conservative MPs are getting angry over the way the Conservative campaign was executed apparently and they don't want to do a deal with the Lib Dems over electoral reform.

Peter Robinson lost his seat.   Cheesy  Hahahahaha.  Excuse me while I fall about laughing.  And for those of you who don't know who he is....it means there's one less wife beater in the House of Commons as of today.

She's no angel either, with her infidelity, homophobia, and dodgy dealings. The pair of them are scum - good riddance indeed.

Another pleasant surprise was the first Green MP, Caroline Lucas - I didn't think she had it in her.

There's probably a strong correlation between intelligence and how likely you are to vote Lib Dem. To me they're simply the most sensible and principled party out of the main three, and I tend to agree with the majority of their policies.

Lib Dems might support Conservatives in forming a minority government.

Anybody know how much the Cons are going to rise taxes by?

Technically the party leaders would have to submit to the Queen for a deathmatch, although I doubt it will come to that. Civil war is usually preferable.
